Decorating your babies nursery
When the time comes to decorate your babies nursery, you’ll find that there is quite a lot to think about. From the décor to the paint to furniture and lighting, what do you really need?
Theme
The first thing my husband and I thought about when decorating our twin girls nursery was the colour. I knew that I wanted the room to be pink.
But we did we want a theme such a princesses, fairies or teddy bears?
We decided to keep it quite simple. So we bought two different shades of pink and painted one wall slighter darker than the others.
We bought a butterfly border and when added to the wall, it really added a nice finishing touch as oppose to just a painted wall.
When it comes to thinking about themes for your babies nursery, it’s important to think about the longevity of it. How long do you want it last?
For example if you decide to opt for theme based on a children’s movie or TV show, how long will it be before that show is too young for your baby?
A simple, neutral theme such as butterflies, cars or teddy bears may work better in the long run.
Furniture
When it comes to buying furniture there are some items that your baby will outgrow quite quickly. Moses baskets and crib top changing units are just two examples.
You can find some gorgeous nursery furniture from Baby Style online, including sets that come with wardrobes and cots.
Another thing you’ll need to consider is whether or not you’ll purchase a cot bed. A cot that can be changed into a bed when your child is older. Many people see the benefits of doing this as it can work out cheaper, but if you’re on a budget you may just want to buy a cot for now and think about buying a bed later on.
Storage
Babies come with a lot of things. Nappies, clothes, toys, wipes, changing bags, portable changing mats, the list is endless! There are many different storage options available.
For us, we have a changing table which has a draw and a cupboard underneath. This provides us with ample room to store everything.
A good alternative are storage cubes. These can be picked up quick cheaply and they can look stylish in your child nursery.
Lighting
How much daylight creeps into the room you’ll be using as your nursery?
Black out blinds are a great way to limit the amount of light entering your baby’s room, which means your baby may sleep better in a darker room.
