I like to think that my childhood was a good one. My sister and I didn’t really want for anything. We had nice holidays, nice things and never went without. One of my fondest memories was when my mum took my sister and I camping with her friend and her daughter.
We went to the Gower Peninsula. Three Cliffs Bay Caravan Park to be precise. It was beautiful. The view of the sandy beach with the three pointed cliffs, and the sound of the sea was very serene. It was like an adventure!
When we arrived the first thing we did was put our tents up. I can’t remember how old my sister and I were at the time, but I think we were probably around 10 years old. I don’t think it was a warm day, but it was far far cold. Anyway, my sister thought it would be funny to roll my sleeping bag toward to the edge of the cliff and before I could catch it, it tumbled over the edge and down into the murky sea water beneath! Not the best start to a camping holiday, but looking back now it’s a funny memory!
After our tents were up, we headed off to the beach and had so much fun making sandcastles, splashing in the water and exploring the rock pools. When we arrived back at the campsite, we headed toward the shower stalls. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was fun and definitely an adventure for us.
I remember the laundrette on site too and watching my mum load our clothes into the machine before spending half an hour trying to figure out how it worked and then giving up!
Now that I’m a mum, I’d love for our girls to experience camping, but I’m pretty clueless when it comes to knowing what to bring with me. Thankfully Halfords have put together a handy guide entitled, ‘The Ultimate Camping Guide UK 2016‘ and you can download it for free.

I particularly enjoyed reading the camping recipes section. Recipes include a lazy full english as well as foil-wrapped jacket potatoes! There are also tips about how to cook whilst camping which will come in very handy for me!
