Barbie launches three new body shapes!
Barbie has launched three new body shapes, curvy, petite and tall. As a mum of twin girls who are soon to be four years old, I think this is a great step in the right direction. They both love their Barbie dolls, but I have to be honest I have worried about how they perceive the appearance of the dolls. I wrote about it before, but I think in all honestly at their age they probably don’t notice their appearance as much as an older child would.
I think an older child would start to notice Barbie’s slim figure, long legs and perfect hair and makeup. However, I think the new range of Barbie’s has conquered a look that every child can relate too. The range takes on a modern look Barbie with a range of various hair colours, including blue, and I love the clothes that they’re wearing too.
Their new Fashionistas line also has a variety of skin tones. When my sister and I were children we used to love our Barbie dolls and we played with the every day. Barbie has always given girls choices, from her 180 careers, to inspirational roles. As anyone who reads my blog knows, my girls,
R and M, have very different tastes. R loves football and M loves ballet. I searched online around a week ago for some birthday presents for them and was pleased to find a football Barbie doll, but also a ballerina one too. The diversity offered by Barbie is impressive.
The new dolls can be viewed on Barbie.com and are available to order now at Shop.Mattel.com in the U.S. The collection will be available from across the UK from March.
Senior Vice President and Global Manager for Barbie, Evelyn Mazzocco, says, “We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty.” I think this new range in dolls is a step in that direction.

I think this is a great idea, although I do think the 'curvy' barbie could have bigger boobs. I think most little girls can relate to these new Barbies and I am glad it celebrates diversity. What about a Barbie that is physically disabled though?
