Is Body Positivity Making Obesity the Norm?

I’ve recently seen an increase in the number of social media posts about body positivity. Women and men of all different shapes, sizes, ethnicities, ages etc, sharing images of themselves with captions about body positivity. Whilst I think this is great in some aspects, other aspects make me wonder if what this movement is actually doing is normalising obesity? I’m all for loving your body the way it is, and I’m no stranger to being overweight. I’ve lost two stone, taken up running, am more aware of what I eat and I’m now considered a healthy weight for my body… [Read More]

My Top Summer Essentials

With summer well and truly here, I thought that it was about time that I got my summer essentials together. Having kids means that the majority of my summer essentials have changed from what they used to be when I was a teenager, but I still have some firm favourites. I thought I’d share some of them with you! It’s also good to know that you can get some great deals on summer essentials at Groupon. 1. We’re all different and that’s ok

Teaching children about body image can be a pretty tricky subject. At the tender of six, it’s not something I tend to think about talking to our girls about. However, when M came out school one day, and passed comment about a teachers weight, it made me think twice. The lady in question was overweight, and I was a tad surprised to hear M say the lady was fat. When we got home, I talked to both of our girls about how every one is different. Some people are tall, some are short. Some have blue eyes, brown eyes or… [Read More]

Talking to children about their private parts

Something that has been on my mind a lot recently is how to broach the subject of private parts with my children. M in particular loves to be naked and will quite happily strip all of her clothes off in the middle of the day whilst we’re home. Of course I’d rather her keep her clothes on, but sometimes she’ll decide to undress in front of other people, not just mummy and daddy.  I decided to have a conversation with them both the other day about their private parts and the conversation went well. I like to be open and… [Read More]

Barbie launches three new body shapes!

Barbie has launched three new body shapes, curvy, petite and tall. As a mum of twin girls who are soon to be four years old, I think this is a great step in the right direction. They both love their Barbie dolls, but I have to be honest I have worried about how they perceive the appearance of the dolls. I wrote about it before, but I think in all honestly at their age they probably don’t notice their appearance as much as an older child would.  I think an older child would start to notice Barbie’s slim figure, long… [Read More]

Professional Face and Body Hair Trimmer

I was recently sent a professional face and body hair trimmer to review from ToiletTree Products. Like many women I get fine hairs on the tops of my thighs and stomach. I usually pluck or shave these away, but with the professional face and body hair trimmer it’s a lot quicker and easier to remove these unwanted hairs. For starters it costs just £10.95 and is available to buy from amazon. It’s unisex and is available in both a white or black design. It’s lightweight and sleek design means it’s easy to store and won’t look out of place in your bathroom…. [Read More]

JD Williams Clothing Review

JD Williams is the UK’s leading direct home shopping company, operating over 20 successful catalogue brands. A quick online search tells you that they offer value plus size clothing in sizes 12-34 plus underwear and footwear. I’m a size 12 and a healthy weight so I don’t class myself as plus size, but some companies do view size 12 as plus size. Anyway, moving on… I was sent three lovely items to review from JD Williams. The first of which is this gorgeous Neppy Jersey Tunic. I chose in light olive, but it does also come in black and raspberry…. [Read More]

Mummy, why do you have no hair there?

Neither of my children have actually come out and asked me this question because they’ve not long turned two, but for all intense and purpose this is a very sensible, important and albeit amusing question that my children may one day ask me! I make no efforts to hide myself away from my children when I’m in the shower and neither does my husband. I don’t feel the need to and like many parents I imagine, I always have an audience when sat on the toilet! I read an article in Glamour magazine a few months ago written by Dawn… [Read More]

I posted an image – What a response!

I don’t normally write blog posts late at night, but I’ve just been the victim of a targeted Twitter attack. All because I shared this image:  I shared this image because I think Rhianna looks great and also because I think the two breastfeeding mums look great.  The image to me is aiming to normalise breastfeeding in public. I didn’t for one minute think that the image was having a go at Rhianna.  From posting this image on Twitter, a lot of people decided it was ok to have a go at me.  You can read the full episode on… [Read More]
