Something that I’m really keen to do this year is make the most of our garden. I’ve often toyed with the idea of growing our own vegetables, and in the past this is something that we’ve done. We’ve grown tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and the odd herb, but it’s something we’ve done on and off on a fairly irregular basis.
This year, I’d love to actually make a plan of what things we want to grow that we’ll actually use and then put that plan into action.
My first thought is growing some herbs such as dill, coriander and parsley. More often than not when I put these into my online food shop, they’re out of stock and I just thought, why not grow our instead.
It makes sense when you think about it, and they’d be 100% organic. We also already have a small apple tree from Tree2mydoor that provides us with around 10 juicy apples. We also have a white grape vine, but this hasn’t provided us with any grapes.
Fruit and herbs aside, I’d also like to grow some other vegetables. This is something I need to think about to ensure we don’t waste anything.
With all of this in mind, I’ve been thinking about what we need to do in order to create our very own edible garden. One thing we can do now is start warming the ground. I can do this by placing fleece or cloches over it for a few weeks. I can then think about sowing some early peas in!
Lucky for me I received a lovely notebook planner from my sister so I’m going to use this to help me plan what we want to grow, where in the garden we want to grow them (the ground or pots/planters etc) and also when the best time to sow seeds is.
I’m also keen to get our children involved too. It’s something they have really enjoyed doing previously so I’m sure they’ll be up for the challenge!
