How does your garden grow? A green-fingered post about growing your own!
I like to think that when it comes to gardening I’m quite green-fingered. I like to grow my own fruit and vegetables, although I wouldn’t say I’m an expert. I have been known to turn to the internet for advice now and again!
Did you know that recent research carried out by Lightbulb Direct has found that LED lighting is proven to help the growth of indoor plants and fruits – with strawberries having their ‘juiciness’ increased by up to 15% when the correct type of LED is used.
With this in mind Lightbulb direct recently sent me some gardening goodies including a strawberry plant, an LED bulb and lamp so that I can grow my own indoor strawberries.
I’ve never grown strawberries before, but I always remember when I was growing up my parents had a lovely ceramic strawberry planter in the garden. I used to pick the strawberries off it in the summer and eat them in the garden!
The first thing I did with the strawberry plant was take it out of the packaging and put it into a jug of warm water to moisten the roots. It’s advised you do this on the packet instructions for an hour or two.
Next up I filled a ceramic pot up with some compost. The pot I used has holes in the base to allow for the water to drain away. It’s important to also have a tray to go under the pot as we’ll be keeping the plant indoors so we don’t want the water to pour out onto the floor!
I then planted the strawberry plant and positioned on a sunny windowsill in my conservatory with my LED lamp shining onto it.
It’s only been a week or two, but the plant is growing well indoors. I do have some strawberry plants which I recently planted outdoors so it will be interesting to see how the indoor one progresses in comparison to the outdoor one.

It’ll be so nice when the strawberries start to grow. My girls can enjoy them as I did when I was a child!

I love home grown, sadly we now live in a property with a tiny garden, but we are hoping to grow Strawberries in a nice planter. Good luck with yours.

Ohh I am currently trying to grow strawberries from seeds….I am not green fingered at all so I'm hoping for a miracle….lol

We planted some strawberries outside a few years ago, and the same ones are still going strong, coming up better and juicier every year. It'll be interesting to see how yours indoor and outdoor compare #tried&tested

I didn't even know you could grow strawbs indoors – we've had them in hanging baskets outside before.
