We were recently chosen to review some toys from Wicked Uncle.
According to the Wicked Uncle website, they state that they’re not just a toy company. They say they’re essentially a present service for birthdays, Christmases and other occasions.
They claim that they’re the only toy shop in the world that doesn’t sell primarily to parents because they also sell to uncles, aunts, godparents and grandparents. Hence the name – Wicked Uncle.
They deliberately divide everything by age and gender because those are the things everyone knows about any child.
We were gifted £40 and given the freedom to chose what we wanted to review.
I chose:
Fancy Dress – Match or Mix Up? £8.95
Dinasaurs Magnetibook with letters £15.95
Make your own sparkly jewellery £9.95
When I showed our girls, the first thing they both wanted to do was the sparkly jewellery.
Make your own sparkly jewellery
Suitable for children aged 4-7, this set contains everything you need to make necklaces, bracelets, rings and even hair clips.
You’ll find a mixture of different sizes, shapes and colours of beads, plus some sticky gems and sparkly foam stickers.
The first thing they wanted to was make the rings. These were really easy to make.
You just needed to stick the double sided white sticker onto the ring and then stick your chosen foam shape onto it, followed by a gem, again using a double sided white sticker.
The double sided white stickers held the foam shapes onto the base of the ring well, but the gem kept falling off so I used a little bit of PVA glue which held it firm.
Next up we made some necklaces. These were a little bit more fiddly than the rings and after threading on some of the beads the girls did get a little bored. Maybe they need to be a bit older for this one?!
The first thing we needed to do was stick the backs onto the foam shapes.
Then thread the elasticated string through the hoop before threading the beads on.
Although they bored quickly of this, they were pretty pleased with the end results!
We haven’t made the bracelets or hair clips yet, but I’m sure they’re just as easy. You do get instructions to help you with each creation too.
Dinosaurs Magnetibook with letters
Inside this book style box you’ll find 104 letter magnets, 12 Dinosaurs and 12 information cards.
Our twins are almost four years old and they’re both interested in learning about letters. They can both write their names and I’m currently teaching them phonics. I thought this would be a great educational resource to support their learning.
The idea is to use one of the cards to find out more about the Dinosaurs.
So if you pick the Tyrannosaurus card, you need to find that dinasaur and stick him to the magnetic lid. Next you’ll need to find the letters to spell the name of the dinasaur.
I really like this game, as do our twins. It’s been great at helping them to recognise what each letter looks like.
The magnets and cards are all excellent quality and the information about each dinasaur on the cards is an added bonus.
Fancy Dress – Match or Mix Up?
The last item I chose was this fancy dress match or mix up game.
Our girls really enjoy card games so I thought this would be a nice addition to their collection.
Suitable for children aged three and over the idea of this game is to mix and match the cards create different characters.
You simply pop the cards out and you’re ready to play! A handy guide is included which you can use to create some characters.
This game helps to promote communication, problem solving and thinking. It also encourages children to be creative use their imaginations and to investigate different ways to play.
Overall, I really like all of the toys we chose. They’re all really good quality and I would definitely recommend them!
For the purpose of this review we were given a £40 voucher to spend on Wicked Uncle. All views and opinions are 100% my own.
