What my car says about me!

April 18, 2016
What does your car say about you?  Like it or notthe car you drive says something about the type of person you are.
And though few of us like to admit it, we all pass some sort of judgement on other drivers when we see what they’re behind the wheel of – if I say the words “BMW driver” what automatically springs to mind? Exactly!
Although the idea that you are what you drive is based largelyupon personal prejudices and social stereotypes, there is now data to back up what we’ve all been thinking for years as you can see in We Buy Any Car’s new personality tool. This nifty little quizlet pulls in statistics from thousands of UK citizens(sourced by YouGov profiles).
So are the stereotypes spot on, or will we have to put aside our preconceptions?
Audi

What the stereotype says…

Audis have become the go to for the company car drivers – a step up in class from the VW, but not quite as flashy as a BMW. Audi drivers are successful business types who like to work hard and play hard.

Ford

What the stereotype says…

There really is no stereotypical Ford driver, so broad is this car’s appeal, and you can usually make an assumption based upon the model rather than the make. For instance, boy racers will always go for the hot hatch Fiesta, while company car drivers will swear by the ever-reliable (and ever-improving) Mondeo.

MINI

What the stereotype says

When BMW re-booted the MINI brand it quickly became the car of choice for go-getting young females everywhere – which was one in the eye for old Mini enthusiasts as the love of their life had now become the archetypal ‘girl car’.
With so many variations on the theme though, from MINI fastback coupes to MINI SUVs, there really is something for everyone – or every woman at least.

Skoda

What the stereotype says…

Skoda has gone through the most remarkable re-branding exercise over the last few decades – from being the butt of all playground jokes (What do you call a skip with wheels? A Skoda) to car of choice for those who value reliability over a badge.
So your typical Skoda driver will be a middle-aged pragmatist who places value-for-money over everything else, and probably washes his car every single Sunday.
What the stats say…

Age: 60-plus

Volkswagen

What the stereotype says…

Volkswagen has always been a by-word for reliability, so you can expect VW drivers to be pragmatic, middle-management types, with 2.4 children and probably a dog. As with Ford drivers, there will always be a variation on the theme and boy racers will always go dewy-eyed at the sight of a Golf GTI.

Age: 40-59
