For some parents, the concept of getting their children into the bathroom can be a challenge in itself, let alone giving them a bath!
If your toddler bath times are stressful, the chances are high that there’s probably something you’re doing wrong. Usually, it’s down to something you may have forgotten to do! Keep reading to check out the best ways to virtually guarantee a fun bathtime for all:
Make sure your bathroom’s features are up to scratch
If you’ve got old bathroom features or they have got to the point where they are falling apart, it’s time to consider an upgrade. The good news is that you can get your hands on cheap bathroom suites so it need not cost you the Earth.
Your bathroom needs to child-friendly. For example, you don’t want massive overhanging taps in the bathtub that are likely to harm your little one.
Check that your bathroom is child-friendly
Before you commence bathtime with your toddler, make sure your young offspring cannot hurt themselves or destroy your bathroom. Here are some quick top tips:
- Turn off the wall radiator so they can’t burn themselves;
- Keep the lid on the toilet closed, preferably with a childproof latch;
- Ensure there is plenty of light so both you and they can see what they are doing;
- Fit some anti-slip mats to the bathtub, so they don’t injure themselves when standing up;
- Remove any objects they could harm themselves with like razors, scissors, or tweezers.
Don’t stress out when they splash water everywhere
Okay, here’s the thing: toddlers can AND will make a mess with whatever they do. Bathtimes are no exception to that fact! So, if they splash some water out of the bathtub, don’t get angry or shout at them. One tip you could follow is to ensure you’ve got a towel on the floor by the bathtub to soak up any splashed water.
Have their favourite toys in the bath
There’s a variety of bath-friendly toys that you can buy your children to play with during bath time. Be sure to include them in the decision process when you purchase those toys. Otherwise, you could end up getting toys they don’t like!
They might also want their favourite toys in the bath that they’d usually play with around your home. Don’t forget to designate some of those are bath time toys.
Use child-friendly bubble bath
Something that you’ll soon discover about your child if you don’t already know is that they LOVE bubble baths! With that in mind, add some child-friendly bubble bath into the tub as you are filling it up. It doesn’t just look like fun, but it helps to keep their skin clean and fresh.
Good luck!

Great Post! Bath time for our twins can be amazing or a screaming disaster. One thing that I find helps is making sure that the room temperature is warm enough. When they get out of the water if the air is freezing(this is especially true in Winter) they are more likely to cry. We got a wall mounted heater that blasts out hot air and has helped a lot.
