Are Your Toddler Bathtimes Stressful? Here’s Where You’re Going Wrong!

When you have a toddler, bathtime should be a fun time for both them and you. Unfortunately, reality is often different to the dream! If you’re a new parent, you will soon learn that your kids can become grumpy or angry at a moment’s notice, sometimes for no obvious reason! For some parents, the concept of getting their children into the bathroom can be a challenge in itself, let alone giving them a bath! If your toddler bath times are stressful, the chances are high that there’s probably something you’re doing wrong. Usually, it’s down to something you may have… [Read More]

Why having a bedtime routine for your child is important

Bedtime routines are really important for children. For as long as I can remember, we’ve always followed a set bedtime routine for our twins.  Of course, over the years we’ve had to make some small adjustments, but now that our girls are four years old, their bedtime room is very consistent and has been ever since they were babies.  We haven’t always read them a bedtime story. When they were babies it was easier to give them their milk, a cuddle and rock them gently to sleep. A bedtime story was quite often stimulation that they didn’t need before going… [Read More]

Bedtime Book Award Project

Over the last month my children and I have been taking part in a Bedtime Book Award Project on behalf of children’s furniture specialist ASPACE. To celebrate some of the best-loved children’s bedtime stories, we were asked to review a number of children’s books which were specially picked in partnership with online book seller, The Great British Bookshop. We were sent a lovely package which included ten books, two pairs of pyjamas, a nightlight and a microwavable hottie. The ten books we were received were: The Tiger Who Came to Tea The Jolly Postman I will not ever never eat… [Read More]

Bedtime routines at two years old

It’s been a long day. 6.30pm arrives. The girls are in their pyjamas, as am I! We make our way into the kitchen and grab a bottle of milk from the counter top. M is in daddy’s arms, whilst R is cradled in mine. We return to our front room. The blinds have been closed and the curtains drawn. We’ve said goodnight to the outside world and turned the lights off. The TV is on mute and I can’t wait for the girls to sleep so I can just sit and do nothing! At just over two years old, I… [Read More]

Top 5 Ways To Get Your Child to Sleep

1. Choose a good mattress. Choosing the right mattress for your child can make the difference between a good nights sleep or a bad night’s sleep. Making sure your childs mattress provides enough comfort and support is important, therefore it is a good idea to have a look around and see what types are available. 2. Develop a bedtime routine and stick to it. Having a regular bedtime routine will help to make the transition from day to night easier for your child. A good bedtime routine should be calm and relaxing. You could start with a gentle massage followed by a… [Read More]

13 Months Old: Sleep Update

I haven’t blogged properly for a while because myself and the twins have been ill. So, I thought today I would give you an update on the girls sleep. We’ll start off with daytime naps. They have two. The first at 9am. R has around 30 minutes, whereas M varies between 30-60 minutes. I don’t let them sleep past 10am as this then impacts their second nap, which is straight after lunch at 1230pm and both girls have 90 minutes. Sounds ok you might think? Well in theory yes but in reality…no! Why? We are still swaddling and rocking both… [Read More]

Oh, what a night!

Nightmare What a nightmare last night was! Both girls by 730pm were tired, grouchy and irritable. Neither took their bottle very well and both girls were a nightmare to settle. Both were upset and crying a lot more than normal. Teething? Possibly, so again some granules, bonjela, calpol and nurofen played a part but both girls ended up in bed with us and eventually twin daddy ended up on the sofa with R……again! New Plan So, what is tonight’s plan?  An earlier bedtime! We usually start bathing the girls at 730pm but tonight we are going to start at 630pm…. [Read More]

What happened to sleep?

I have heard a number of times over the last few weeks from lots of different women, that mums who say their baby sleeps through the night must be lying. Our twin girls have always slept through the night and have done so from about 10 weeks of age. I don’t know why. We didn’t do anything special other than introducing a bedtime routine of bath, swaddle, bottle and bed.  Maybe it comes down to their days in special care? The first 27 days of their lives were spent in hospital. At night time, the light was always on and… [Read More]

A Day in the Life of a Twin Mum (2)

Just over a month ago I wrote a post, ‘A Day in the Life of a Twin Mum‘. Looking back at this post I was quite amazed by how much things have changed since then.  The girls are now one week short of being 8 months old and I thought I would write another post along the same lines, so you can also see how much things have changed in a month.  The main things I have noticed is that: * The girls now go to bed earlier * They have less bottles * They have more naps but for… [Read More]
