There’s no such thing as baby logic!
It’s funny the things the things that we do as parents to try and get some sleep, peace or similar.
The lengths we go to try and get out children to do something!
I was thinking the other week that when our girls were babies I had some funny ideas about things. I remember them going through a particulary bad few weeks (or was it months?) of sleeplessness for one reason or another.
I remember searching the internet for advice, tips, pretty much anything that would help. R would quite often wake in the night up to ten times just for me to put her dummy back in. I read online that one mum put lots of dummies in her child’s cot so that if she woke in night wanting a dummy, her child was able to find one and settle themselves back to sleep.
Yes! I thought! Finally that’s what I’ve been missing all along!
The very next night I scattered approximately ten dummies in R’s cot. I felt pretty confident that should she wake in the night, she would indeed be able to find a dummy and go back to sleep herself.
Baby logic doesn’t exist! It just doesn’t! There is no such thing as baby logic!
R still woke looking for a dummy. Of course she was surrounded by them, but that didn’t matter because she just wanted me to put in for her!
On another occasion, I remember reading about a cot organiser.
You simply attached it to the outside of your child’s cot and popped their drink in it, along with some spare dummies and anything else your child should need in the middle of the night.
Genius! I thought!
If they’re thirsty, they can just get their drink from their cot organiser, have some, pop it back and then go back to sleep.
What I didn’t count on was, said child dropping the bottle out of the cot onto the hard floor and waking everyone, including her sister up.
Baby logic doesn’t exist! It just doesn’t! There is no such thing as baby logic!
Nor did I anticipate the drink leaking meaning we’d have to change sheets, duvets and pyjamas in the early hours.
I didn’t even think that by offering my child a drink in the middle of the night, that their nappy would be fuller than usual resulting in a leaky nappy.
It really is funny looking back at some of the things we’ve done as parents to get an extra five minutes sleep or to get some peace and quiet!
What are some of the funniest things you’ve done?

I'm not a parent yet but I look forward to moments like this. I'm sure being sleep deprived makes you think/do some silly things! I think having kids is an adventure and you have to laugh at moments like those to get by! X

I hadn't thought of the lack of baby logic meaning the dummy trick wouldn't work. I have also heard of people doing this, and just assumed it did! My son has a similar lack of logic-he cries and points at his toys, indicating he wants me to hand them to him, even when they are well within reach. I think he doesn't consider getting them himself because he just assumes that Mummy fetches his toys for him!
