The benefits of school trips abroad
When I was in school, I always remember going on lots of school trips. They were one of the highlights of school for me.
Whether it was a museum, farm, or local park, it didn’t matter to me. School trips were fun. A chance to go somewhere new with your classmates.
However, one of the things that my parents never allowed my sister and I to do was go on school trips abroad. I always remember this one school trip new york. I’m not sure of the exact reasons why our parents didn’t let us go, but perhaps it was due to the expense of sending two children on an overseas trip, or perhaps they were concerned for our safety. Of course both of these are totally understandable reasons for not wanting your children to go on a school trip abroad. However, when you’re young, and all of your friends are going, you tend to feel left out.
This is one of the reasons why my husband and I decided pretty early on that if our children ever had the chance to go on a school trip abroad, then we would want to try our best to ensure that they could go.
As long as the trip was well researched by teachers and everyone involved. As long as there was a clear itinerary, enough staff and most importantly, as long as the children are safe, and we can afford it, then yes, we would happily send our children on a school trip abroad.
There are actually lots of benefits in allowing your children to go on a school trip abroad. For starters it’s so much more than a school trip in your local area. Quite often school trips that allow children to go to another country, means that children can explore other cultures, and learn valuable life lessons.
Learning about what food people in other countries eat, what type of work they do and of course it could even end with them learning a new language.
In addition these trips can see children increase their confidence and self-worth. Quite often putting children out of their comfort zones can mean that they learn transferable skills, and it can also help to build their character and learn new skills.
Although classroom based learning is important, some experiences simply can’t be taught from within a classroom environment. Children will learn how to bond with their peers and work together as a team. plus they can gain a better understanding of topics and retain information by learning in a real-life context environment. In addition, school trips abroad can help to broaden their horizons and perspective of the world. Teaching them that there’s so much more to life than just the country they live in.
