The Benefits of Arts & Crafts for Children

January 12, 2022

Art is an expressive activity that can help your child in their development. It requires creative and imaginative thinking and in recent years it has become a part of the abbreviation STEM to form STEAM to place more prominence on the arts in schools. We have teamed up with a private school in Belgravia to share more on the benefits of arts and crafts for children.

Fine Motor Skills

Arts and crafts rely on the hands for precise detailing and construction. Whether that’s finger painting or making a collage. This will help your child to develop fine motor skills that are needed in day-to-day life to pincer, grab and hold. This feeds into hand-eye coordination which can only be improved through practice.

Decision Making

Crafting requires careful decision making in order to decide what colours and materials to go for to complete or rescue a piece. It encourages children to use their imagination and forward-thinking skills to think about potential outcomes, helping them to practice for the future.

Innovative Thinking

Children are also able to create new artwork and designs that have not yet been made. This requires innovative thinking to think differently and create unique ideas. This is a key skill that can set them apart from the rest of their peers and help them to become pioneers.

Creative Expression

Arts and crafts provide a creative outlet for children to express themselves, their thoughts and their feelings. This can be a real help when going through difficult times and act as a method of stress relief.

Developing Social Skills

Through finding a hobby like painting, your child can find others that are just like them and make new friends. This will help them to develop social skills and the ability to connect with others.
