Sewing Project: Mermaid Tail Blankets

July 28, 2016
I’ve been making lots of dolls at the moment, so I thought I’d mix things up a bit by making our twin girls a mermaid tail blanket each.

If you’ve not heard of these before, they’re  blankets that are kind of like sleeping bags, but in the shape of a mermaid tail, although they’re not as big as sleeping bags!

I found a free pattern and tutorial online so I downloaded these and then headed to our local fabric shop to buy some fleece. I was hoping the girls would pick a plain fabric, but both girls opted for a teddy bear print one! R chose a blue one and M went for pink.

I also bought some purple fleece for the cuff and tail. These were super quick and easy to make. Perfect for a beginner!

I really enjoyed making them and the girls absolutely love them! They use their blankets every day! Quite often I’ll walk into the living room and find the girls snuggled in them on the sofa!

What do you think?

Oh wow. I love these. What a cute idea. My neice would love this, especially since I got her hooked on The Little Mermaid. These look fun for sleepovers too 🙂

Ah these are so cute! I've seen crocheted ones but not fabric ones, these look a lot easier to make! My girls would love them!
