Selfies, Wassup and Bae! How old is your language?

Growing up in the nineties it was all about playing it cool, wearing your three quarter length trousers with your white visor and pretending you weren’t a fan of the spice girls despite owning every song they’ve ever sung! Of course you also needed to know the lingo too. Common phrases of the 90s included:

Sup
Bangin’
Boo ya!
Wassup!
Buzzing
Dawg
Dope
Muppet
FYI
Fly
How you doing?
OMG
Talk to the hand
Whatever
Wicked

Nowadays it’s probably not considered ‘cool’ to say many of the above phrases, yet some have made a pretty big come back recently. Dope, for example is being bandied around more now, and that’s probably because of a certain famous songwriter/producer/singer that goes by the name of Will.I.Am.

I do find it pretty funny when I over hear teenagers talking about their Bae’s whilst taking selfies of themselves using selfie sticks! Admittedly I did have do an online search to find out what ‘Bae’ actually meant, and if you’re just as clueless as I was it’s basically another way of saying boyfriend or girlfriend! Of course, I’m guilty of taking the odd selfie and I do actually own a selfie stick so maybe I’m more ‘hip’ than I originally gave myself credit for?!

Apparently not though because according to an online language quiz my language age is 40!

Despite the fact that it’s added 11 years to my actual age, it’s all really just a bit of fun! By answering 11 questions which ask you how you would react to a bunch of different scenarios, the quiz determines your age based on your answers and then tells you how old your speech is.

It’s probably quite accurate for me though as I do like to speak the english language properly and I very rarely use slang!
