Romantic Meal Ideas for Valentine’s Day on an Outdoor Grill

February 12, 2016

Forget cuddly toys and flowers. Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a beautifully home-cooked meal and if you need inspiration, here are just three dishes you can prepare on an outdoor grill, from The Stove Site, suppliers of multi fuel stoves and other log burners:

Marinated King Prawn Skewers

King prawns make an ideal starter or can be served with salads and sides as a main dish.

Ingredients:
        Raw peeled king prawns
1 x Finely chopped red chilli
        Olive oil
        Lime juice
        Tablespoon of white granulated sugar
        Salt & pepper
Method:
1. Pour the olive oil, sugar, lime juice, chilli, salt and pepper into a mixing bowl then add the prawns. Coat them thoroughly in the marinade, cover and then place in the fridge for at least 20 minutes. The longer you can leave them to soak up all those flavours, the better.
2. You can use metal or wooden skewers for this recipe but if you do use wood, soak the skewers for 15-30 minutes before use to prevent them burning on the grill.
3. Remove the prawns from the fridge and thread them onto the skewers from head to tail so that they are stretched out along the skewer. Ensure they’re threaded tightly together to prevent too much heat penetrating the prawns. By doing this you’ll get a beautifully crisp outer and moist tender flesh on the inside.
4. Set your Kamado up to cook with indirect, high heat and carefully place the prawns on the grill, turning just once halfway through cooking. They should be ready in just 3-5 minutes.
5. Serve with a lime wedge and enjoy!

Fillet steak with sweet potato wedges

Spare no expense with a main course that includes a tender, melt-in-the-mouth cut of fillet steak.

Ingredients:

2 x fillet steaks sized to your appetite
2 x medium to large sweet potatoes
        Olive oil
        Garlic infused olive oil
1 x teaspoon of cayenne pepper
        Salt & pepper

Method:

1. Take the fillet steaks out of the refrigerator at least half an hour before cooking so they reach room temperature.
2. Rub each steak with olive oil and season liberally with salt and pepper.
3. Cut the sweet potatoes into wedges, you can leave the skin on or remove it depending on your preference.
4. Toss the wedges in garlic oil, cayenne and salt and pepper.
5. Set up your Kamado Divide and Conquer system to cook with both direct and indirect heat. The grill on the indirect side should be set to its lowest position and the initial temperature should be set to around 350˚C.
6. Place the wedges over indirect heat and roast for 20 minutes.
7. Once the 20 minutes is up, open up the air controls to raise the temperature for searing the steaks. This will also help crisp up the skin on the wedges.
8. Place your steaks over the direct heat and avoid the temptation to turn them more than once, but keep an eye on them to ensure they’re cooked to your liking. The difference between a rare blue steak and a well done one is a matter of minutes.
9. Remove steaks, rest for 5 minutes and then serve with the wedges and the tipple of your choice. Cabernet and Bordeaux wines are perfect with steak but why not have some bubbles? Champagne goes with everything!

Heart shaped stone baked pizzas
Sometimes it’s not about what you cook, but about the love that goes into preparing a dish that makes it special. The humble pizza is easy to make, delicious to eat and can be given a romantic twist with a heart-shaped base.

Ingredients:
Enough pizza dough* for 2 small pizzas
        Margherita sauce*
        Toppings of your choice
*Click on the links to find great recipes for making your own dough and sauce. You can halve or quarter these recipes to get the right quantity, or simply freeze any leftovers for your next pizza.
Method:
1. Set your Kamado up with the pizza stone in place and all air controls fully open.
2. Knead the pizza dough into 2 heart shaped bases and dust with flour.
3. Spread the margherita sauce evenly over both bases ensuring you leave a gap at the sides for a crust to develop.
4. Add your chosen toppings.
5. Carefully place each pizza onto the stone and quickly close the lid to retain the heat. Your bases should rise and bubble but not char, and be ready in around 10 minutes.
6. Remove from the heat and serve. Delicious!
Your loved one will really appreciate the time and effort you’ve made to prepare a meal for two this valentine’s day, but why not go all out and set a romantic garden scene with candles, fairy lights and music?
Yes, it’s cold outside, but what better excuse could you need for snuggling up to the one you love? Grab a blanket, fill your glasses and enjoy the stars.
