Poundland £20 Summer Challenge

I was recently invited to take part in Poundland’s Summer Challenge.


I was gifted £20 in Poundland vouchers and challenged to see what items I could get from their summer range.


I walk past Poundland on my way into work so I quite often pop in to pick up some cake decorations, wet wipes or gifts for our twins. I remember going in last year just before Christmas to get some Christmas decorations and I managed to get quite a few bargains! Some festive lights, stockings, tinsel etc! I always know I can save money in Poundland!

When my vouchers arrived I was eager to get started so I decided to browse the Poundland website to see what items were available and then I made a mental note of some of the things that I definitely wanted to get. I was also curious to see how many of the products featured on their website I’d be able to find in-store.

I decided that I wanted to get the girls some bubbles, a click and catch game as well as cooler bags, a kite, flip flops, a wipe-clean table cloth, ice cube blocks, picnic blanket, picnic tray and then I’d see what else I could find!


As you can see from the picture below Poundland have a large range of toys for children of all ages.

Before I let you know how well I did with the challenge I wanted to talk a bit about Poundland first. Quite often shops such as Poundland have a stigma attached to them. People think the products available are cheap and low quality, but what’s even more amazing is that some people are actually embarrassed to be seen in Poundland.


Let me tell you this though. In 1990, the founders of Poundland came up with an idea. Everything for £1. Where else can you buy an umbrella for £1 or a phone charger?


Did you also know that last year Poundland sold 5.5 million boxes of Maltesers, 2.5 million umbrellas, 3 million metres of tinsel and 250,000 garden gnomes. That’s pretty epic!

• They have a range of over 3,000 items, representing amazing value for money
• In 2003 they opened their 100th store in Shirley, West Midlands
• In 2008 they opened their 200th store in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. In the same year Poundland launched their charity partnership with Macmillan
• In 2012 Poundland chose Cancer Research Wales as a beneficiary from sales of it’s plastic carrier bags
• In 2013 they announced their first celebrity partnership with Jane Asher and her bakeware range 
• In 2015 they exceeded £1 billion turnover for the first time

 

I’ve put together a cheeky video to tell you all about my Poundland Summer Challenge. 

As you can see from the video it starts off with me being a bit embarrassed about going into Poundland, but after going in-store and finding lots of amazing bargains, I come out proud to be a Poundland customer! So much so that I tell all of my friends and family about the wonderful things I managed to buy for just £20!


I also bought cake decorations, but I hid them in the cupboard from our twins then forgot to get them back out again for the video!

• 2 first learning books
• 1 wipe clean table cloth
• 1 pack of 8 colouring books
• 2 packs of Jane Asher cake decorations (These were 2 for £1)

 

Overall I think I spent the £20 wisely and managed to pick up some great products! What do you think?
