This year is the first year that I’ve taken growing my own vegetables and fruit seriously.
I attempted to grow some last year, went on holiday for a week and when I came back they were all dead.
I’ve learnt my lesson and have done a very small amount of research into growing my own.
So far so good!
We planted our first seeds at the beginning of the month.
Some tomato seeds, spring onions, carrots and some salads such as lettuce leaves, rocket, cress and spinach.
I decided I’d plant new seeds every two weeks to have a regular supply.
When the first of our tomato plants started to show I was pretty pleased with myself!
I’ve been keeping them in pots on the windowsill in the conservatory.
I’ve remembered to water them regularly too!
I also had some strawberry plants sent to me along with a strawberry planter – something I’ve always wanted!
I have fond memories of picking strawberries from the planter in my garden when I was a child.
I planted some of the strawberry plants in the planter outdoors and then planted the remaining few in a pot to be kept indoors on the conservatory windowsill.
Quite interestingly the strawberry plants indoors have flowered first.
It’s now been about a month and our carrots and spring onions have grown well.
I also planted some potatoes and they appear to be making good progress too!
I’m really looking forward to eating all our homegrown fruit and vegetables.
I’ve even got some thyme and chives growing on our kitchen windowsill and I’ve ordered some curly kale seeds too!

There is something so satisfying about eating something that you've grown. We've grown before in the past but this is the first year we're really having a proper go at it. Good luck with all your plants! #howdoesyourgardengrow
