Happy Birthday To Me & You!

January 2, 2017

Today is my birthday.

I don’t normally write a post specifically about turning another year older, but seeing as this one is the big 30, I thought I’d put something down in writing.

Today isn’t just a special day for me. I’m a twin, so obviously it’s also a special day for my twin sister too.

Growing up with a sibling the exact same age as you minus two minutes, is pretty incredible, although granted like most siblings we argue a lot! However, we also forgive each other pretty quickly too.

Being a twin is pretty special. I have fond memories of my sister and I over the years. Going back to our childhood, I remember my sisters taste in music. She loved singing her heart out to Celine Dion’s ‘The Heart will go on’. She’d sing it over and over again! Oddly, she also loved the song ‘The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde’. Strange, I know!

I also remember being woken up in the early hours of the morning to the sounds of my sisters screams. I think we were in our teens. Our family cat had brought a live bird into her bedroom which was flying around and around her bedroom! I’ll never forget the sound of the birds wings flapping, it was so loud!

Another fond memory I have is from primary school. I wasn’t very good at throwing balls, so my teacher told me to aim between my sisters eyes in order to throw the ball in a straight line. It worked! I was chuffed! My sister, however, wasn’t very impressed at being hit between the eyes with a hard ball! Oops!

I remember one day I was home from school ill. I’d missed my sister whilst she was at school so when it came to home time, I sat in the dining room staring out of the window waiting for her to come home. We lived opposite the school at the time. She came bounding out with her violin case in one hand, then all of a sudden she tripped over it. She came through the front door in floods of tears insistent that she’d broken her arm. Personally, I just thought she wanted the attention of a plaster cast and the novelty of getting the other kids at school to sign it! She went to bed, then when she woke in the morning, her arm had doubled in size so my parents took her to A&E. Turns out she had broken her arm. Poor thing, slept all night in her bed with a broken arm!

Then there was the time that my sister was sat on the bed, I was on the floor. She swung her legs around, caught my finger and promptly broke it! Ouch!

Once we were in our garden and my sister really, really wanted an apple from our apple tree. Of course she wanted the one from the highest point in the tree so I decided to climb and get it for her. The only thing is the branches were rotten. The branch snapped from under my feet and I came tumbling down, landing on my back and properly winded myself. What did my sister do? Took the apple from my hand and wandered off!

Our teenage years were fun too. I can’t remember what it was, but my sister or one of our friends threw something over the fence of our school. I tried to act all ‘brave’ and climbed over the fence to retrieve said item, however my trousers caught on one of the spikes and I was left hanging upside down from the fence by my trousers. After she’d finished laughing and taking pictures, she eventually help me down!

I have to say that without her my childhood would probably have been pretty boring! Happy birthday sis! I love you!
