Like many households we seem to accumulate items over long periods of time. All too often these items aren’t used and simply sit on a shelf or in a cupboard or drawer collecting dust. We’re all guilty of doing this I’m sure, but it’s time to action and declutter!
It’s the same for the clothes in my wardrobe. When they no longer fit, lose their shape or go a bit bobbly they just hang in my wardrobe never to be worn again. Until now!
It’s such a shame when you think about it. I wonder how many unused items of household products or clothes are just sitting in other people’s homes? I bet you could probably think of one or two in your own house right now!
According to Oxfam the average household has a room full of clutter which they do not use. I know this is true for a few friends of mine!
Well now is the time to declutter it all, take back control and donate your unwanted goods to Oxfam.
That’s exactly what I did last weekend. With the help of our twin girls, I went through each room in our house to see what we could donate.
In total I donated three bags of clothes, books and toys. Our twin girls helped me to go through my wardrobe, as well as theirs. I’m not sure why, but at four years old, I still had clothes from when the girls were two years old in their wardrobe! Time to say bye, bye and give them a new lease of life by letting someone else enjoy them!
We also went through the girls books. They love reading, but some of their books were from their baby days and were far too young for them so we bundled them into a black bag into the car to donate to Oxfam.
Now, the last task I did have to do by myself. Soft toys! Why we do collect so many of them?! They never get played with and yet we continue to buy them! I did have to go through these without our twins as they’d just end up convincing me to keep them all!
With our car boot full, it was time to take our decluttering haul to our local Oxfam shop.
Did you know that by donating cash and goods to Oxfam the funds work to fight extreme poverty around the world. Donations now go even further, with Gift Aid. This makes your donations worth an extra 25%, allowing Oxfam to reach more people in poverty. Decluttering feels good but ending poverty feels even better.
To gift aid your items simply fill in the form handed to you when you donate instore. In return our donated bags were tagged with a sticker to say they were eligible for gift aid. I was also given some more stickers so that I could tag my future donations, as well as a card with my donor number on.
You can donate good quality and clean clothes and shoes, valuable items, books, music such as CDsm vinyl, DVDS, homewares, soft furnishings, knitted items and blankets, toys and games, wedding dress and accessories, mobile phones, furniture, stamps and coins.
If you’re unsure of what you can donate, call your local store or shop support on 033 200 1333.
So what are you waiting for? Time to declutter for a good cause!

I love a good declutter and also hate binning everything so donating to charity is always the best idea. I didn't know about the gift aid form though. Interesting! Bet your house is empty now lol. Xx thanks for sharing with #bestandworst

It's great when we can give nice things to the charity shops. We accumulate so many kids clothes and toys. It's nice to know they will go to another home. I like a good declutter too! Handy idea to pop on your Gift Aid Oxfam labels on the bag so you don't have to waste time filling them out at the shop. #bloggerclubuk

I am currently doing a massive declutter and already have two bags filled for the charity shop – I think it's great to give a little back when you can

Couldn't agree more… If in doubt, throw it out! I feel so much better when I've had a good clear out and if it can benefit a charity too, it's a win win. x #BloggerClubUK
