Ooo squishy yarn goodness! Is there anything better? Oh, hello there! Don’t mind me! I was day dreaming about yarn and crochet. Yes, that my friends, was the highlight of my 2020!

While the rest of the world was panic buying toilet roll and baking banana bread, I was hiding in a pile of yarn while shopping online for more yarn!

I admit I am the ‘obsessive’ type. I get a new hobby and then run felt pelt at it. For example, there was that time I took up running and set my mind on completing a marathon, the London Marathon in fact. Much like that Brittany girl who also ran a marathon I didn’t have a clue what I’d let myself in for, but let me tell you this. I gave it my all and I freaking well did it! There was also the time I took up sewing and quilting (side note: I must finish that quilt. It’s been almost five years!). So naturally lockdown 2020 felt like the perfect time to learn a new hobby. Crochet!

Armed with a 5.5mm hook and one lonely ball of yarn I set to work. Following the amazing tutorials of Sarah Jayne from Bella Coco, I quickly found myself whipping up a granny square, and before I knew it I was investing in one of those square storage units from IKEA for my yarn and a ladder shelf to display my creations!

Yes, I am quite literally ‘hooked’. I’ve started my own Instagram dedicated solely to crochet. I even have my very own Pinterest board full of projects and ideas.

Christmas was a fun time as it allowed me to turn my thoughts to more festive makes such as my crochet wreath, nativity, snowman and reindeer!

I also made my first cardigan and some scarves in 2020.

As for 2021. Well, I have lots of projects lined up already. First up is the amazing Sophie’s Universe blanket. I’ve made a start on this using yarn I already own and I absolutely love how it’s coming out.

My sister also bought me the amazing Eastern Jewels colour way of Janie Crows Persian Tiles blanket so that’s another big project for 2021. As someone once said to me, (my sister, I think), you certainly won’t be cold in my house! I have an array of blankets and I think it’s fair to say that blanket pile will have doubled by the end of the year!

So that’s how my little foray into the crocheting world is going so far. Do you crochet? If not, why not?! Get those hooks out and start learning! It certainly gives me something to do when my husband is watching one of his scary films. Saves me from hiding behind a cushion anyway! Until next time, take care!
