Crochet Society Box 13 Review

Toward the end of March I decided to try my hand at crochet. I enjoy doing crafts such as sewing, quilting and scrapbooking so I thought why not add crochet to my skill set too.

I searched online for tutorials and Bella Coco Crochet was the one that kept popping up. Bella Coco, by Sarah Jayne Fragola, is a blog and you tube channel with a variety of crochet tutorials and patterns.

I followed her absolute beginner video series and quickly fell in love with crochet. My first few makes were granny squares, followed by blankets and I’ve now branched into the world of amigurumi (the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed yarn creatures), and I’ve even made a shawl. I’m also half way through a cushion cover that is my own design.

Shortly after learning to crochet I discovered the Crochet Society. It’s a monthly subscription box delivered right to your front door that’s full of crochet goodies, yarn and an exclusive pattern booklet.

My first box (number 13) arrived early July and I just had to share it with you!

The contents of the box were as follows:

• Bella Coco Piece of Cake DK yarn x 2
• Bee stitch marker
• Enamel mug
• Yarn bobbins
• Black embroidery thread
• Pom Pom maker
• Toy stuffing
• 3.75mm Crochet Society hook
• Pattern booklet

The patterns in the booklet are for you to make using the contents of the box and there were three patterns to choose from. A shawl, a bunny toy or a vest.

I choose to make Briar the Bunny. The pattern, by Heather of Kcaco.uk, was really easy to follow. This is the first toy I’ve crocheted and I think it was a good one to start with!

That’s what I love about the Crochet Society box. The patterns are suitable for both beginners and experienced crocheters, plus Sarah even does a video tutorial for each pattern as an added bonus!

Here is my finished Briar the Bunny.

I’m so pleased with how she came out! Naturally I had to make two as I have twins! The second I made using my own yarn.

I then decided to have a go at making the Meadow Sweet Shawl which is by Anna Nikipirowicz as I had quite a bit of yarn left over.

If you’re looking to start crocheting, I can highly recommend following Bella Coco’s video tutorials on you tube, and if you become a crochet addict like me, it’s definitely worth checking out the monthly Crochet Society subscription boxes.

Overall I have to say that I’m very pleased with my first Crochet Society box. I’ve learnt lots of new skills from it and I can’t wait for my next box to arrive!
