Compost Direct Review
The first day of Spring has been and gone so that means it’s time to get busy in the garden and start sowing some seeds!
I tried and failed miserably last year to grow some vegetables, but I didn’t research what I needed to do and then went on holiday forgetting all about my seeds and needless to say they didn’t grow.
This year will be different! I have a better understanding of what I need to do!
Compost Direct very kindly sent me two 30l grow bags, one 60L vegetable compost bag, one 60L multipurpose compost bag and a premier lawn rake.
Delivery was quick, although at £54 I think it’s expensive when I could have just gone to my local garden centre for less than £2 in petrol.
Delivery is free when you order bulk bags (900L bags). When you order bulk bags, delivery is also free on up to 4 small items too (e.g. hand fork).
I bought some carrot seeds, spring onion seeds, tomato seeds and pack of salad seeds along with some garden fleece to protect against insects, two patio planters and a pack of three potato planter from my local garden centre and then I set to work with R and M on hand to help!
First up was the vegetable compost. R and M were very keen to help so they both helped to transfer the compost from the bag into a potato planter.
They then helped me to sow some carrot seeds in.
As mentioned above the vegetable compost is a 60L bag so it was enough to fill one potato planter and one patio planter.
We planted some spring onion seeds into the patio planters.
Next up was the multipurpose compost, which is also suitable for growing vegetables. We filled up another patio planter and a potato planter with the compost and planted some more carrot and spring onion seeds.
We then used the remaining compost to fill up nine small pots to sow our tomato seeds in. These will kept indoors until around May when we’ll introduce them to being outside.
I only used one grow bag and this was to plan some of our salad seeds – rocket, cress and some other salads.
I’m looking forward to a more successful year of growing our own vegetables and salads and will be sowing some more seeds in two to three weeks for an all year round crop.

Good luck with your veg, looking forward to seeing how they grow! Although the delivery does seem very expensive! 🙂 x

Thanks Jenny. Our tomato plants are doing well, as are our strawberries and salads. No sign of any carrots or sting onions yet though! Keeping my fingers crossed! x
