Christmas is one of the busiest and most expensive times of the year. If you have a large family and lots of friends then your bank account is definitely going to feel the pinch, but there are lots of things that you can do to help you save some money in the run up to Christmas. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  • Using Christmas money saving tools can be a great way to keep track of all your spending. They can also help you to budget. By using check lists, you can write a list of what you need, and then work out your budget. This goes for buying presents too. Write down a list of who you need to buy for and how much you want to spend per person. I’d recommend doing this a good few months before Christmas, maybe even as much as six months before hand. That way if you know you have to buy for five people and are willing to spend £10 per person, you know that you’ll need a total of £50. By starting six months in advance, you can start to save. Working on this six month plan, all you’d need to do is put £10 a month away. Planning and budgeting are your friends! Use them wisely!
  • Websites such as My Voucher Codes are great for helping you to save some extra money. Maybe it’s just a code for free delivery or perhaps even a code for ‘x’ amount of money off when you spend a certain amount. Any saving is good, no matter or little or big it is.
  • Making handmade gifts can also help to save money. Whether it’s as simple and quick as making your own cards using paper and raiding your kids craft box, or perhaps even making something a bit more elaborate such as your own chocolates, cakes or some jewellery. Personalised, handmade gifts always feel more precious to me! They have so much more thought in them compared with a voucher!
  • After Christmas and New Year, the last thing you’ll probably want to think about is the following Christmas, but it’s actually a good time to start. Work out how much money you can spare and put it into a separate savings account. £10 a month for 11 months works out as £110 towards Christmas.

In addition to the tips above, I’d recommend watching the video below for even more Christmas money saving tips!
