Children have no boundaries!
This post was inspired by a number of different incidents that have occurred recently.
A few weeks ago, I was sat on the toilet, when one of our four year old twins wandered in. Nothing unusual about that that you might think, but she was wearing a pyjama top and nothing else. She had a pair of pants in her hands, but didn’t seem to want to make any effort to actually put them on!
She needed a wee, but as I was already occupying the toilet, I asked her to go and use daddy’s bathroom.
“Ok”, she said as turned to walk away. Still with pants in hand.
She then wandered passed my husband, told him of our encounter with a giggle and then walked through the kitchen to the other bathroom. Still with pants in hand!
It made me laugh to myself about how children have no boundaries.
Another incident was when my niece and nephew were around. Again it does involve me being on the toilet! My niece wandered in and told me she was hungry. Of course, I asked her to ask her mummy for something in the meantime, but it was pretty funny.
I wonder at what age do children start understand the need for boundaries? I’m not bothered that they saw me on the toilet, but on the odd occasion it has bothered me when the girls have been on the toilet with the door wide open when we have visitors over and it hasn’t phased them at all.
Maybe this is something I should start talking to them about? I think so as they’ve just started school full time. They’re only four and a half years old, so it hadn’t really crossed my mind until I actually started to think about it.
I wouldn’t want them to be in school using the toilet with the door wide open, but then I worry about them getting locked in the cubicle!

Hi Emily your blog made me laugh, you're right kids are so oblivious to the idea of privacy in the bathroom, I recently got a sign as a gift from a friend, which I hang on my bathroom, "Mum Time come back later". I don't know about schools in the UK but in our local village school in Mijas, Spain the infant (3-6 year olds) toilets don't have doors on the cubicles at all. I can only imagine it is a security measure, as the school itself is lovely. Claire, one of 4 MyGeckoBox mums.

My youngest opened the bathroom door whilst she was on the toilet once and my partners parents were by the porch door at the bottom of the stairs {our toilets are straight up the stairs} and she didn’t care!
I do try and tell the girls now.
