Celebrating Your Twins’ First Birthday

March 21, 2017

The first birthday is an exciting event for all parents, no matter whether they are first-time parents or more experienced. But when it comes to twins, there is double the reason to be excited. The truth is that planning a birthday for twins is considerably different to just planning it for a single child. There are a few things that you will need to do markedly differently if you want your twins to enjoy their day. Of course, it is unlikely that they will remember it – but you will probably feel that you want to do something to make the most of it anyway. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what you might want to consider.

Invite The Family

First birthdays are a great excuse to get the family together, and you will probably find that people are even more likely to attend joyously when it’s for the twins. After all, there is something adorable about twins having a birthday, especially their first one. So it would be a good idea to invite all the family, and make a proper day of it. It doesn’t have to be an all-day event, but inviting everyone will ensure that you get the most out of the day that you can.

Getting The Twins Ready

One of the main things you will need to work on is how you are going to present your twins on the big day. Most parents of twins like to dress them up in matching outfits using clothes from mud pie or similar, but it is entirely up to you whether or not to go the identical route. If you do, you will want to make some small distinction between them – not for your own sake, but so that the other members of the family who don’t see them so much can tell between them. This helps to save a lot of embarrassment in the long run throughout the day, and you will probably find that everyone is particularly grateful for this!

Gifts

Part of the beauty of having twins is that you don’t always have to get separate gifts. You might want to, of course, it’s entirely up to you – but that that age, they probably won’t mind sharing their presents. Sometimes you will even see twins where one is more interested in the wrapping paper, and the other is playing with the actual gift! If this happens, then you have kind of hit the jackpot. Traditionally, you will find that members of the family buy useful or entertaining gifts for one year olds, so expect lots of toys and other things of that nature. You really can’t have too many of these, especially with twins, so be grateful for whatever comes your way.

The Cake

Finally, it really isn’t a party without a cake. Getting your twins to blow out the candle together might seem adorable from the outside, but the truth is that it can be quite difficult to achieve. This isn’t an essential, so don’t worry too much if not. But at the very least, you do want to make sure that you have a cake.
