Bringing indoor play outdoors

June 28, 2016

The sun was shining brightly in the sky. It was a warm day, there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky and it seemed like such a shame to stay indoors.

I enticed the girls into the garden by digging their old Little Tikes play kitchen out of the garage and into the garden.

I hosed it down to get rid of the cobwebs and spiders, then my husband luckily managed to find a box full of the saucepans, cutlery and plates that went with it. I knew there was a reason why I couldn’t part with the play kitchen and this was it!

The girls emptied the box of saucepans, plates and cutlery into the cupboards of the play kitchen, and I filled the small sink up with some water.

R found a bucket so we also filled that up with water too and before long the girls were happily ‘doing the dishes’ in their outdoor kitchen.

They played for ages! I filled up an old bottle with some washing up liquid too. I then turned the box that the saucepans were in upside and laid a teacloth on top so it was now a make do table.

R and M decided that they’d open a cafe now that all of their dishes were clean. I laid down a picnic blanket and R placed the make do table on top.

The girls loved pretending to take my order, cook the food and then serve it up!

I think we’ll be doing a lot more of this over the summer!

What a great idea. My girl's school nursery has a toy kitchen outside and they love playing with it and pretending to wash up!

This sounds really fun. It's only in the summer you can do really fun things like this x
