Are Facebook selling groups putting charity shops in danger of closing?
This is a bit of a random post, but bear with me! I do have a valid point and I’d love to hear what you think!
I can’t remember when exactly, but for quite some time I have been a member of a local selling group on Facebook. I live in small village and I’m pretty sure everyone in the village who is in on Facebook is in this group!
It’s a great little group, especially for grabbing a bargain when it comes to kids toys.
I’ve bought numerous toys, books and even a cross trainer from this selling group.
I’ve also sold so many things in the group too, such as the girls playhouse, bikes and toys.
With that being said I really don’t understand why some people post things for sale in the group for 50p. It’s not as though they post a lot of items so that it adds up to a lot of money. They just post one thing for 50p.
Personally, I’d probably just keep the item and store it out of site somewhere, bin it or if suitable take it to a charity shop.
Is it just me that thinks that it’s a bit odd to sell something for 50p?
Although it’s great I guess if it’s something you[‘re looking for, but the majority of the time it’s just tat!
I think this group is great because it’s a really good way to meet people in your area and it’s very neighbourly helping others out with advice and recommendations too, but I do wonder if these selling groups will put an end to charity shops?
After all if no-one takes their unwanted belongings to charity shops anymore because it’s easier to sell it online, then who is actually taking their belongings and who is buying there?
I think a lot of elderly people enjoy charity shops and the chances of them having their own Facebook account is slim so maybe it’s them keeping the charity shops afloat?
I like charity shops, but honestly can’t remember the last time I went in one.

Interesting point, but I guess there isn't much difference to a carboot and they haven't put an end to charity shops, I guess those who are likely to donate will those who would rather sell will try to sell.
I know in Milton Keynes there are loads of charity shops some that do VERY well.

I know in a few of the selling groups I am a member of people buy from charity shops and sell the items on these groups and eBay and make a profit….I do love a good rummage around a charity shop. Especially for the kids clothes….I think the charity shops are more endangered by the clothes recycling places which pay so much for a bag of unwanted clothes xx

I'm not sure. If there isn't a charity shop locally, then some of this stuff might end up as landfill. I know things can vibe eBayed, but I can't be the only one who's too lazy.
