AD| Top Tips for Brands who want to work with Fitness Bloggers

February 9, 2021

Bloggers, influencers, social media stars. Whatever you want to call them, it’s hard to deny their appeal. Teenagers want to live life like them. Pre-teens want to be them and I think the majority of adults loath them! Like them or not, they’re here to stay.

It’s fair to say that marketing and advertising has changed a lot over the last decade. While radio and TV adverts are still used, there’s been a definite increase in the number of big brand companies using bloggers and influencers to get their name or product out there.

While ‘print’ is still used to reach a different audience, online ‘print’ has grown substantially over recent years. Be it an article on a blog promoting the latest weight loss trend or an Instagram post showing off the latest fashion, advertising has entered a whole new realm.

Working with bloggers

You may wonder why brands and other small business often turn to influencers and bloggers to help them promote their work. I find this particularly true for UK fitness bloggers. I’ve discovered so many new products from following bloggers to help me in my own fitness journey.

That’s partly down to the algorithms on various social media platforms which make it easier for its users to find the content they’re looking for. After all, a quick search of #peloton on Instagram brings up an enormous amount of information and photos without having to spend hours scrolling through Google.

There are lots of fitness bloggers UK and they can offer lots of different services to brands and small businesses at a much cheaper rate than a PR company.

For example, influencers, whether it be on their blogs or social media channels tend to give it their all 100% of the time. Even more so if they’re being paid to do so. After all, their blog, Instagram feed etc is their livelihood. This means they care enough to want to ensure that what they put out there is worth watching or reading.

Influencers can offer shout outs on their grids and stories, as well as more in depth videos on reels or you tube channels. Picking the right influencer means that their audience is also your audience. As such, they’ve done most of the hard work for you by honing in on your audience and building that up as a dedicated following.

Getting the best of out collaborating with a blogger

First up, do your research! Assuming you’ll already know your target audience, the first thing you should do is find an influencer who fits into that audience. By doing so you’re much more likely to have their support because they’ll believe in the product or service you’re offering, and not just because you’re paying them. There’s no point approaching a food blogger to review a new treadmill! Their audience won’t be right for that!

Next up, create a shortlist of the influencers you want to work with and, quite possibly the most important – FIND OUT THEIR NAME!

Bloggers get hundreds of emails a day addressed to ‘Hello blog owner‘ or ‘Dear sir/madam‘. It’s pretty much an instant delete! If you want to work with an influencer, find out their name and then address them by it in your email. DO NOT send out a generic email to lots of bloggers. We hate this! It’s almost as if you’ve pinned all of our names on a dart board, thrown a dart at it and then picked the one it’s landed on. Not cool!

Check out the Get Blogged Marketplace

Another big tip I can give you when looking to work with fitness bloggers is to find out where to contact them. You can go directly to bloggers, but quite often your email will either land in their spam folder or it’ll be lost in the daily barrage of emails that bloggers get.

That’s why a platform such as Get Blogged is perfect for brands. It’s the place bloggers and influencers, myself included, go to look for paid work. The Get Blogged Marketplace can help brands achieve their goals faster.

When I work with Get Blogged, I get a clear brief which outlines exactly what is expected of me. I’ll know the word count, URL and anchor text as well as the topic and any other information I need for the collaboration.

In addition, I know what to expect from the brand I’m working with in return. I’ve worked with Get Blogged for a long while now and can highly recommend them.

My Favourite Fitness Bloggers

Finally, if you are looking to collaborate with fitness bloggers, here are my favourite 5 fitness blogs.

Be Strong Fitness by Fran – I’ve followed Fran and her blog for a long time. She posts workout videos, nutritional tips and more.

Run Jump Scrap – I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Sarah in real life and she’s such a lovely person. A mum and fitness blogger, Sarah’s also a dietician so really knows what she’s talking about.

Kayla Itsines – Kayla is such an inspiration to me. She was one of the very first fitness bloggers I came across. I love her videos!

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill – More a celebrity than a fitness blogger, but who doesn’t like Jessica and her workouts?

Kelly Roberts – This bad ass lady set up the bad ass lady gang run club. She went viral in 2014 for taking ‘selfies’ with ‘hot men’ during a half marathon!
