AD| Hair Dos and Don’ts for Your 30s

March 2, 2020

As I head towards my mid-thirties a lot of things have changed in my life, both mentally and physically.

I like to think I’m a positive person. I try my best to look on the bright side, be kind to others and to enjoy life to the fullest.

For example, I no longer care as much about other people’s opinions of me and I take my health a lot more seriously. I take care of my body my exercising and eating well. I take care of mind by trying to have a positive mindset and taking time out to do the things I want to do.

However, I’ve noticed that as I get older my hair has changed considerably. Just last year, at the grand old age of 32 I found my first grey hair, and I just so happened to find it on the day that I ran my first marathon, the London Marathon! It just goes to show what a strain running a marathon can put on you!

My hair has also become dry. No doubt as a result of using hair straighteners on a daily basis I imagine!

So what can we do, and perhaps more importantly, what shouldn’t we do to our hair in our 30s? Well, first and foremost, finding the right hairdresser and stylist is a must! Steven Carey Hair is a great place to start.

Don’t wash your hair every day

When I was a teenager I used to shower twice a day and both times I would wash my hair. I was obsessive about being clean and looking good. While personal hygiene is, and always will be a high priority to me, I’ve learnt that I don’t actually need to wash my hair every day.

In fact daily hair washing can actually damage your hair. It strips your hair of its natural oils and causes more split ends. In order to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy, avoid daily hair washing! To help reduce greasiness, I suggest investing in a silk pillowcase. You’ll wake up with fresh looking hair.

Do be adventurous

Following on from the whole not washing your hair daily thing, I realise this could be tricky for some women. Greasy hair doesn’t look good, so why not be adventurous and try out a perfect hairpieces for women.

These unique lace front wigs feature a 100% hand-tied lace front for a more natural hairline and a machine-made wefted back which makes them a more economical option. Wearing a wig means that you won’t have to wash your hair every day. Plus, you can experiment with different looks!

If wigs scare you, a great alternative are clip in hair extensions. They’re a great way to give you thicker, longer looking hair without damaging your own hair.

Don’t go short

Of course, if you have short hair already and it suits you then great! For the majority of women though a short hair cut can often make us look older than we actually are. Longer lengths cane make us look younger and offer up a youthful vibe without having to go all blue rinse and perm just yet!
