AD| Create Professional Family Photos at Home

When my children were born I knew that I wanted a newborn photography session. However, I didn’t want to have to pay the price of hiring a photographer. After all, having twin babies isn’t cheap so any out of pocket expenses were to be avoided at all costs!

Photos are very important to me. After loosing my mum, photos and memories are all I have left of her. This is one of the reasons why I always take lots of family photos and store them in photo albums. Another great use for photos is to create wall art. With that in mind, my husband and I decided to create our own newborn photos from the comfort of our home. It was surprisingly easy and considerably cheaper than hiring a professional photographer. Plus our photos came out amazingly well. Eight years on and they’re still framed on our living room wall.

The first thing you’ll want to do find a space that offers up plenty of natural light. A room with a decent sized window or patio doors is perfect. Natural light will give the best result. The problem with light from a bulb is that it can often give off a yellow glow in your photos and that’s not what you want at all.

Once you’ve found the perfect place to have your photos taken, you’ll need to look for a nice photography backdrop. This could just be a plain wall or perhaps you could hang a blanket or sheet up.

Alternatively, you could look online for a backdrop.

The benefits of using a backdrop especially designed for photography are many. They’re wrinkle-free, resistant to glare and waterproof. You could even get creative with these super cute Easter backdrops.

Now all you need to do is decide what everyone is wearing, where everyone is going to stand and what vibe you want your photo to have. Once you’ve decided on this, you need to figure who or how your photo is going to be taken.

If you have someone who can take the photo for you, then great, but if not don’t worry. You can use a tripod for your camera or phone and use a timer. This may mean taking multiple shots to get your desired result, but practise makes perfect!
