The Spice Girls, Gameboys and Adidas shell suits. Although these diverse yet legendary things are seemingly unrelated, they do in fact have one thing in common; they were all established in the 90s. Let’s have a look at some of the other gems to have come out of one of the most fun-filled decades to date…
Hair mascara
A cheap and effective alternative to permanent highlights, this handy hair product was an absolute must-have for the annual school disco.
Sunny Delight
Despite being rumoured to contain washing powder and various other products unsuitable for human consumption, this orange-flavoured drink was one of the most popular soft drinks of its time.
Mr Motivator
The spandex-wearing fitness instructor who made regular appearances on morning television is fondly remembered as a true 90s figure. Shame his attire attracted more attention than his workouts!
Chokers
Most often made from pearls or black velvet, chokers were without a doubt one of the most-worn accessories in every female’s jewellery box.
Push Pops
Although eating them often resulted in a numb tongue and sticky chops, kids in the 90s just couldn’t get enough of Push Pop lollies.
Shag bands
Worn around the wrist of every 90s kid worth their salt, these colourful wristbands are renowned for their mischievous meaning. Can you remember what you had to do if you broke one?!
The skant
Every trendy schoolgirl owned a pair tight fitting pants complete with mini skirt over the top. Nevertheless, the exact purpose of the skirt still remains questionable.
Platform trainers
Worn with pride by all five members of the Spice Girls, these clodhoppers (namely those by Buffalo) have become a staple item of every hipster’s wardrobe.
Goosebumps books
Hear the tagline “Reader beware, you’re in for a scare!” and you’re instantly reminded of one thing; Goosebumps books. Despite their bizarre titles and even more peculiar storylines, these nineties novels were real page-turners.
Brum
Gel pens
When these colourful pens made their first appearance in stationary stores around the UK, plain old black and blue biros just didn’t cut it anymore. Flying off the shelves at an unimaginable rate, glittery and smelly versions were particular pencil case favourites.
