I did it! 5k Mo Run!

December 6, 2016

On the Sunday, 13th November, I took part in my first ever 5k run!

Although I have taken part in a number of 5k runs before, the reason I say that this is my first one is because this is the first one I have run in its entirety. The previous ones I have done were for Cancer Research UK. They were the Race for Life 5k runs, although you can run or walk them. My sister and I usually ran a bit, then walked, than ran etc. We even did the muddy 5k one year which was lots of fun!

Anyway, back to the 5k Mo Run. I managed to raise £115! There’s still time to donate if you want to! You can find my Just Giving Page here.

Over the past two months I’ve been running two to three times a week in preparation for this day! It’s funny how much I actually enjoyed going out to run. I found that I was planning my weeks around when I would go for a run!

This time last year I struggled to run 1k, so the fact I can now run 5k without stopping in a pretty respectable time is something I’m pretty proud of!

I was hoping to get a personal best on the day of the run, but I was a minute out! Never mind, there’s always next time!

I’d been telling our girls about the run for a number of weeks so they were getting excited at the thought of coming to watch me!

On the day of the event, my husband, our children and I drove into town and whilst hubby took the kids to join the very long queue to pay for the car park, I set off to register and collect my race number and trendy, bright orange Mo Run headband!

Before long I’d joined the other runners at the start line and the countdown began!

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and we were off!

I made sure I paced myself. The last thing I wanted to do was start too fast and run out of steam half way around!

The route took me around the scenic Bute Park in Cardiff. A route I was unfamiliar with, but this didn’t matter too much as it’s pretty flat.

I was amazed that by the time I reached the half way point I was still running, still feeling good and I was running past who’d stopped to walk. I thought I’d be one of the ones walking!

My favourite moment was running towards the finishing line and seeing my husband and our twin girls stood on the side waving at me!

Here’s to the 10k in March! Better get training!

This is great and for a good cause too. I don’t like race for life as CRUK have made it political by changing it to a feminist thing. A charity shouldn’t be excluding people because of their gender which is what Race For Life does (and no for no good reason either). Good on you, you did great here x
