5 Weekend Activities to Keep the Kids Entertained

April 18, 2015

Knowing how to keep children entertained at weekends and
during the holidays can be a tricky task for many parents, especially
when many kids are bored staying at home. According to the Daily
Mail
, a recent poll revealed that grumpy children say ‘I’m
bored’ more than 200 times over the summer holidays. If you’re
running out of ways to entertain your children over the weekend or
during the holidays, below are some simple ways to keep them busy.

Get
crafty with card

Children
love a craft project, especially if they know it’s going to be seen
by a lot of people. Use your time with the children wisely and make
handmade birthday cards for family and friends. The kids will love
being creative and designing the cards and it means you won’t have
to go out and buy expensive cards for everyone all year! Plus,
friends and family will really love the thought. This idea is also
perfect for Christmas and Easter holidays. You can give them old
cards to cut up along with stickers, glitter, foam letters and googly
eyes from
Craft
Superstore
.

Bake
cakes

Baking
is not only great fun for children, it can also help them to develop
self confidence and teach them necessary skills such as measuring
ingredients and cleaning up after themselves. Whether you’re baking
a big cake, some cupcakes, biscuits or scones, tell the kids they can
polish them off at the end and they’ll certainly be super eager to
help you and get started straight away!

Build
a den

Who doesn’t love building a den?
If it’s indoors, provide them with a large blanket or a sheet, some
chairs or cushions and let them pretend they’re in a land far away!
If they’re heading outdoors to build, you can give them a large box
or even a tent. This idea will keep them quiet for hours!

Hold
a sports day

According
to
The
Telegraph
,
m
ost
children ‘play outside for less than an hour a day’.
A recent
survey by the National Trust revealed that climbing trees and
building dens have been replaced by hours spent in front of
televisions and computers. Ban the computers and phones for the
weekend and get your kids outside by arranging a sports day or mini
Olympics in your garden. You can include all the traditional races
and let the adults join in too. Alternatively, set up games like
c
roquet
and badminton. Make sure you reward the winners with mini medals or
trophies!

Organise
a treasure or scavenger hunt

This
may be too easy for the older ones, but if you have young children,
they will love a treasure or scavenger hunt around your home and
garden, or even the local park. Hide different clues for the children
to solve (you might like to make some harder than others depending on
age range) and reward them with treats as they go along. Reward the
winner with a big prize at the end!

Some fab ideas. We love all of the above, especially den building and treasure hunts. Amazing how much fun you can have at home just with a little imagination x
