5 Reasons Why I love Spin Class
I remember the first time I ever stepped foot into spin class. I was with one of my step-daughters and we’d both decided to brave spin class. We kind of knew what was entailed, but in hindsight we really didn’t!
Our first class was pretty tough! Our legs ached, we were worn out and half way through the 45 minute class I thought I was going to pass out! However, we powered through and eventually we made it out alive! I went to a few more spin classes, but when my step-daughter started uni, I lost my motivation. Somehow going to spin class on my own just wasn’t appealing!
That was until 2017! I’ve found my love for spin again and I’ve also found the motivation and the confidence to go it alone!

Spin class isn’t easy, but it isn’t hard either. It’s kind of somewhere in between, but you do need to be prepared for it! You don’t get much of a break, 60 seconds at most! Here are my top five reasons why I love spin class:
1. The lights are out! This is one of my favourite reasons! No-one can see the ridiculous faces I pull whilst spinning my bum off and no-one can see the sweat dripping off my face! Exercising in the dark is the perfect option for those like me who don’t like an audience! It also means that I can close my eyes which really helps to power through and spin as fast as I can!
2. The spin coach is a lady! The first class I went to the spin coach was male and way too pushy. He’d leave his bike to make sure everyone had their resistance up as hard as possible and it was just too much for me. The female coach doesn’t do this. Her classes are more laid back, yet just as effective and I find them more varied. Every week is slightly different!
3. Anyone can do spin. It doesn’t matter if you’re a size 6 or a size 20. It doesn’t matter if you’re 18 years old or 60 years old. Spin class really is for everyone. In the class that I go to there are people of all ages and all sizes. No-one judges because we’re all their for the same reason!
4. It’s only 45 minutes! That’s nothing when you think about it really. 45 minutes out of a whole day. I can go after work or whilst the girls are in school and then I’ve got the rest of the day or evening to do what I want. 45 minutes twice a week and knowing that I’m burning in excess of 500 calories a time has a got to be a winner!
5. I feel so much more motivated when I’m in a group. Working out on my own isn’t fun and I can often give up and lose motivation. With spin class you don’t get the chance the think. It’s fun, energetic and has disco lights!
Tips for attending your first spin class
Be prepared! If you don’t exercise regularly you may struggle to keep up. That’s ok, but just be prepared for it. You may even want to speak to your GP first to make sure spin is safe for you.
Take a towel – You will sweat!
Take a drink – You’ll be very thirsty!
Chose a time that suits you! First thing in the morning or after work.
Find an instructor that you like – For me this is a biggie! As mentioned in this post, the first instructor just wasn’t for me, but when you find one you like, you’ll love it!
Keep at it! Don’t give up! You can do it! Good luck!

Love the tip, take a towel! I remember the days of using blue paper and then finishing the session only to find bits of it stuck to my head! I love reading your posts on #TheGoldenBurpee it is really nice to see how much you are enjoying fitness. Keep the posts coming!
