Weekend Box Review
Picture the scene…it’s a cold, wet morning. Your children are bored of playing with their usual toys and there’s nothing on TV. What do you do?
Enter…..Weekend Box!
We were recently sent a lovely Weekend Box to review. Weekend Box was started with the aim of solving the problem that some parents face in trying to find time to source really exciting, high quality activities.
In each box you’ll find four activities:
Something to make
Something to explore
Something to cook
Something green
You’ll also find a book.
Something Green
Our something green is a make your own lollipop bird feeder. This was one of the very first activities that we did. I decided to do this one first because our girls love to look out of our living room window at the birds. I thought this would be a great way to get them involved and to continue their interest.
Everything you need to make each activity is included in the Weekend Box. Each activity comes in a coloured paper bag and the instructions for each activity can be found on a card of corresponding colour.
Making the bird feeder was really easy. The instructions were easy to follow although had a few mistakes on and words missing. We were provided with enough lollipop sticks to make our bird feeder, which involved us laying nine lollipop sticks in a row next to each other and then getting two more lollipop sticks which we glued to the top of the nine lollipop sticks to create a firm base. We then built up the sides of the bird feeder with the remaining lollipop sticks.
I was disappointed with the length of string provided to hang the bird feeder up as it was too short to create an equal balance and allow room for birds to easily get to the bird seed.
Some of the activities we were sent required us to use PVA glue which was included with each activity in a small reseable bag. Although more than enough glue was provided, I would have preferred it if the Weekend Box actually included one plastic pot or tube of glue for all activities because once opened trying to reseal the bag that the glue was in was quite messy.
Other than this though this was a great activity to do and our twins really enjoyed helping out. Bird seed was also included for this activity.
Something to explore
This is one of my favourite activities! You’ll quite often find me doing some messy play with our girls. We’ve played with finger paints and glitter, made gloop and even dabbled with dry porridge in a box at a play group once!
Never have we actually played with sand though!
Our something to explore was sand art pictures. We were provided with a double sided drawing, glue and 4 bags of different coloured sand. The idea is to apply glue to the outlines of the drawings and then sprinkle on some coloured sand to make a picture.
There’s even enough sand leftover to make your own drawings!
This was another great, fun activity.
Something to cook
Our something to cook is potato boats. I haven’t done this activity yet, but it looks like great fun!
Something to make
Our something to make is 3D glasses. We haven’t done this activity yet, because there is only enough to make one pair of 3D glasses so our girls would quite likely fight over it.
Overall, I think the Weekend Box is a great idea and also great value for money. You can get your first box for just £5 and then after that it’s just £7.50 per a box.
It would be great if Weekend Box came up with a Weekend Box for twins or supplied a discount for twin parents who would need to buy twoboxes at a time!

It's a great idea. I'm trying to gather together a box of crafts, but haven't quite got around to it yet so this is fab, especially as it's delivered to your door.

I was a bit disappointed with mine and didn't feel that it came with everything needed. There is a discounted sibling option to their pricing too.

We have done our potato boats but not the rest yet, it is handy to have these kind of boxes at home though

I think it's a great idea, when you have young children you want to do something nice and different every weekend, and it's really hard sometimes coming up with ideas! Those weekend box sounds ideal.

I agree it can be hard to think up new things to keep them entertained, so this is good as it does that for you. Plus it included everything you need to do the activities.

sand art picture sounds great… I guess coloured glue would help to see your picture better before sand comes on

It is sometimes hard to think of things to do at the weekend so the weekend boxes are a great idea. I've got 4 kids though so think it'd be pretty expensive to do every week, for an occasional treat though it's great.

Lovely idea and I like the mix of different types of activities. I probably wouldn't get it weekly but monthly could be a lovely treat.
