Your kids are obviously the most important thing to you – it shouldn’t even need to be said. You still need to work and bring in the money, though. You need to have that time away from them in order to be able to provide for them so that you can see more of them. It’s a strange little paradox, but that’s the life we live in.
During the lockdown period, the majority of us have been working from home as we attempt to contain this virus while the ongoing attempts at a vaccine are underway. Working while your kids are around isn’t exactly the ideal setup we have – some feel this a lot more than others, but every parent is facing some strife right now. Wondering how to make the most of this little situation? Well, here are a few things you could do:
Let Them Know What The Situation Is
If you have really young children around the house, then you might have more of an issue. They’re not going to know what’s going on and why you need to have time to work. That means you’ll have to explain to them that what you’re doing needs silence, and that they shouldn’t disturb what you’re doing unless it’s really important. You need to get your work done in order to provide for them, remember, so it needs to be drilled into them that they behave throughout the day.
Make A Daily Or Weekly Plan
Everyone works better when there’s a plan involved as they know what it is they have to do. Have a working plan for yourself – layout what you should do throughout the day/week. It’s also wise to plan out a schedule for the kids, too – even though they may get away from it quite quickly! When we’re left to our own devices with no plan, we can easily let our minds wander, and that kind of idle boredom doesn’t lead to anything good.
Keeping Absolutely Everything Organized
The office space you’ve created for yourself and the computer systems you’ll be working on should be pretty close to immaculate if you’re to get everything done smoothly. Some people are able to work with things that are all over the place, but the majority need to have neat and tidy folders. So make sure your desk is clear from clutter so you can have a sensible workplace in front of you. Be sure to install everything you need onto your computer sooner rather than later so that you don’t have to spend precious time getting all the systems sorted. Things like conference calling software, document linking software, and project management programs can all me brought in away from working hours.
Get Help From Others
During this pandemic, it’s obviously close to impossible to find outside help in terms of childminders. Once this entire situation blows over, though, getting in touch with a babysitter wouldn’t be a bad idea. They may cost a little, but it would be worth it as you’d get to be a lot more productive – and everyone benefits in that instance. You could obviously get in touch with friends and family, too, to see if they’re available for some childminding.
