What do our dreams mean?

August 9, 2016
Adjustamatic have asked me to share with you my experience of dreaming. I’m one of a few bloggers who have been asked to take part in this campaign for the chance to have our dreams analysed by the amazing Ian Wallace, top dream psychologist and oneiric.

For as long as I can remember I’ve always had dreams and they’ve mainly been pretty bizarre! When I was a child I used to dream about falling or trying to escape from somewhere or something, but not being able to run fast. Everything would be in slow motion.

When I was younger I used to go to bed late and that often meant that I’d rarely get out of bed before 11am, midday or later some days!

Now that I’m an adult, my sleeping habits have changed quite a bit. I’m usually in bed by 10pm, but have been known to stay up on the odd occasion until midnight. Since having children my sleep is a lot more disturbed that it’s ever been.

Quite often I fall asleep on the sofa in front of the TV in the evenings. When I go to bed, it can take me an hour, sometimes longer, to fall asleep. I find it hard to unwind, to switch my mind off. I usually have numerous thoughts running through my head and trying to clear my mind of these thoughts can be difficult.

I’m quite a creative person and like to be busy and doing something all the time, so I wonder if this has something to do with my inability to ‘switch off’. It probably doesn’t help that our four year old twins share our super king size bed with us every night either!

I still dream frequently, but there’s one dream in particular that keeps recurring. If I go to bed at around 10pm, this is when I usually dream. On the nights that I don’t go to bed until late, I find that I don’t dream.

The only part of the dream that I ever remember is my teeth falling out in my mouth. It’s almost as though I can actually feel the teeth falling out with my tongue, as though it were real.

It’s not just my teeth falling out though. I also dream about my teeth crumbling, and again it’s as though I can actually feel it happening.

I have no idea why I dream this. I don’t remember anything that happens before the part where my teeth start to fall out and crumble. It’s an awful dream as it feels so real.

I’m not the only one who dreams in our family. Our twin girls quite often dream. They also talk in their sleep, mainly about what we’ve been doing that day! Their nanna, my mother-in-law, also has dreams.

This usually occurs whilst she’s in her recliner chair as she quite often has a nap during the day.

There’s no particular pattern to her dreams though. She tends to dream of different things. From being outdoors in a meadow on a sunny day to eating a hearty meal. Now they’re the kind of dreams I’d like to have!

Do you have strange dreams? I’d love to hear about them!
