Thoughts I have whilst running

July 31, 2017

Running has become a bit of an obsession of mine lately. I’ve started training for a half marathon and I have to say that I’m really enjoying the training plan. Not only is it teaching me so much about my capabilities and how far I can push myself, I’m also learning about so many aspects of running that I didn’t even think about when I first started. From pace, to threshold runs, hill work and strength training, I have to say running is my new obsession!

Whilst I run, I tend to think some pretty random things. As I imagine most runners do! I thought I’d share some of those thoughts with you! Enjoy!

First Kilometre

Oops started way too fast

Feeling it in my legs already

Why am I out of breath already?

Maybe I should run home, it’s only around the corner

Two – Three Kilometres

That’s it! Getting into my stride now!

Yes, I feel like freaking wonder woman! I can do this!

Oh god, is that a hill coming up?

Yup, that’s a hill. Come on legs, power through

Woo, made it! Nice, relax downhill now!

Why was the downhill part not as long as that hill?

Ooo another runner. Should I smile? Wave perhaps?

Why didn’t she smile back?

Urgh, I won’t bother again.

Aw, another runner who actually smiled at me! That’s nice! Yeah, we’re awesome!

Man, I need a new playlist! These songs aren’t working for me anymore!

Four-Five Kilometres

Almost half way there

Should I take the shortcut?

No, don’t do it! Be good, you’ve got this!

Oh yay, the park is coming up. I much prefer running in the park than on the road

Ah crap, why is that dog coming straight for me?

It looked a lot smaller when it was further away

Okay, that’s a pretty dog. Keep calm, stay cool, I’m sure it’s friendly.

Oops, pretty sure I just tripped over the dog. I don’t think anyone noticed. Keep running!

Five-Six kilometres

Still feeling good

I’m starting to feel like a proper runner now

Wow that women that overtook me is fast

Should I speed up? Am I going too slow?

Nope, stay steady. Maintain an even pace. This isn’t a tempo run

7-10 kilometres

Nearly there

I’m so going to have a naughty treat when I get home. Maybe a chocolate bar (Slimfast of course, I don’t want to ruin my progress!)

I knew I could do it!

So close to home

If I speed up, I’ll get there quicker!

Ouchy, legs are a bit achy now. Maybe I’ll slow down a bit!

Yes, I did it! I am wonder woman – no wait – I am me and I am wonderful!

I’m not a runner… but these thoughts happen for me too… Although, not in relation to running, I do congratulate myself on things regularly.
