The-S Box Review

The Stitchery is a company that I’ve worked with before. The Stitchery has everything you need for all of your haberdashery, fabric and knitting needs, plus a whole range of gift ideas, homewares and bits and bobs!

They’ve recently launched a new crafty monthly subscription box called the-S box and I was lucky enough to get one to review. The-S Box contains ideas for your own projects from making jewellery to upcycling a garment, creating a hair scrunchie to making your own homemade Christmas gift!

The great thing about the-S box is that you’ll get the help of The Stitchery’s online tutorials over on their blog, plus there’s even a voucher code to use on their website every month too.

There are a few different pricing structures depending on how many of the-S boxes you’d like to receive:

Inside the-S box that I was sent was:

• 3 different coloured felt squares
• 3 different coloured pieces of fabric
• 1 piece of calico fabric
• 1 bag of lavender
• 3 different coloured embroidery threads
• 1 wooden gift tag
• Bag of buttons and bells
• 1 reel of super stitch
• 3 ribbons

The-S box will fit through your letterbox so you never have to worry about missing a delivery. Another thing that was included in the box was a sheet of paper which had a list of contents, along with some ideas on what to make, in addition to the online gift voucher.

As the box I received was pretty festive, I decided to make some Christmas decorations. I think there’s nothing nicer than some homemade Christmas decorations that can be passed down the family for years to come.

First up, I made a super cute Father Christmas tree decoration. I drew out a pattern and then cut out the shapes from red and white felt, and the calico for the face. I then sewed on some super small black eye before sewing the front of Father Christmas together.

I then traced around Father Christmas onto a piece of red felt to make the back. Using some of the ribbon I created a hanging loop. When I’d sewn the front and back together I stuffed this decoration with a mixture of the lavender found in the-S box, along with some toy stuffing that I had at home. I then finished him off with a bell on his hat. I have to say I’m pretty impressed with my Father Christmas! It was really easy to make!

Next up, I decided to make a hanging heart decoration. This can be hung from a door or even a picture frame hook on the wall. Now, my embroidery skills aren’t great, but I thought it would be a nice added touch to embroider the words ‘Merry Christmas’ onto this decoration.

The first thing I did was print off a heart template. I used this to cut out the heart shape from the red dotty fabric. I then embroidered ‘Merry Christmas’ on, before creating a hanging loop and sewing around the edges. Again I stuffed this with some lavender and toy stuffing.

My next creation is another Christmas decoration. This time a star. Using the brown dotty fabric along with the red square fabric, I made this star decoration.

The last thing I made is my favourite! I’ve never made a wreath before, but wanted to give it a go. Using an embroidery hoop, I cut up the red dotty fabric into strips and then wrapped it around the hoop hiding it under the fabric. I then used the other fabric, cut into strips, to tie them around the edge to give a fuller look. I finished off the look with a bow either side. I think it’s a pretty effective decoration. You’d never know that there was an embroidery hoop hiding under there! I attached some ribbon to the top to allow for it to be hung up.

So, as you can see I managed to make four different things using the contents of the-S box and I still have lots of fabric, ribbon, lavender, buttons and bells left to make more wonderful creations!

Overall, I have to say that I love the-S box! I think it’s a great idea and I like that you get some ideas to help inspire you. What do you think?
