Oh my goodness me! I never thought I’d be one of those parents that would want to buy their child everything on their Christmas lists, but I am!
There I’ve said it!
I buy my kids everything on their Christmas lists!
Before you cast your judgment on me, as it does sound pretty insane, have you considered the size of my twin girls Christmas lists?
There, maybe now it doesn’t seem so insane if perhaps they list just ten things each?
This is usually how their lists start, so buying them everything on it, is pretty simple.
However what happens when you or someone else asks your child what they want for Christmas and they name something that wasn’t on the original list?
What are you supposed to do then?
When I was growing up, I’d write a list to Santa. It was often ridiculously long, and I never expected to receive everything that I’d written down, although of course, it would have been nice!
So why now, as an adult, do I feel the need to buy my kids everything they want from Santa?
I don’t know, but I do!
So, when our darling daughter, R, came to me in the kitchen one morning before school with tears forming in her eyes, what was I to do?
She’d already mentioned that morning that she wanted a Paw Patrol Pup Pad – something that I hadn’t ordered, but did quickly order within two minutes of discovering she wanted this, but then the tears came when she said in a panicked voice…
“Mum, I forgot to put a Hulk and Thor costume on my Christmas list to Santa!”
Uh oh! Thankfully, she had put the Hulk costume on the list and it was sitting somewhere in our home already wrapped and ready for Christmas day, but a Thor Costume was a new one on me!
I tried to reassure her and told her that she had put them on her Christmas list, but she didn’t believe me. Thankfully, the Elves that arrived in our home on 1st December had brought with them a sheet of paper for the girls to write a letter to Santa. Cue another ‘well done mummy’ moment when I told her it wasn’t too late because we could use the paper the Elves brought with them to add the Thor costume to her list.
A smile spread across her face and thankfully all had returned to normal. Well, that was until I started searching online for Thor costumes and found that you couldn’t get one with both Thor’s hammer and his headpiece!
Thankfully I did eventually manage to find a costume with a headpiece online which I bought, and then I also bought Thor’s hammer separately.
I know it seems crazy, but the thought her little face on Christmas day when she realises Santa hadn’t brought it, would just be unbearable! So, yes, I gave in! I bought her the Thor costume, but I guess they’re only young once and if I can’t spoil them a little at Christmas time, then when can I?!

Such lucky girls! I remember being a kid and getting a furby on Christmas Day when they were all the rage. My mum had prepped me (we only got a stocking from santa, all other presents came from my parents) saying she couldn’t get one because everyone had gone wild for them but that she would get me one after Christmas instead. What I didn’t know is that she had gotten up at 4am to go and queue to get one each for me and my cousin. I couldn’t believe it when it was under the tree! 20-ish years later I’ve not forgotten! #bestandworst

We have a ‘wish list’, and that’s when they go mad and cut out pictures of everything they would like or write it all down (this is usually done when the Smyth’s catalogue arrives at our door). Then after a week or so we go through their list and they select three of their very favourite toys or items and that is what they officially ask Santa for. I think it encourages them not to ask for too much, nor expect it. So far they have pretty much everything on their lists, but not everything, as some of things they put on there were simply naff toys that cost a fortune and they would play with them for 5 minutes and then go in the drawer! I have told them that if there are items that they don’t get then they can always put it on their Birthday lists. In our house we have a stocking and a smallish sack from Santa, the rest are from us.

This happened to me yesterday. I had finally finished up buying the last few little things in the morning. That afternoon I took her to see Santa and she gave him some totally new things that I’m now on the fence about getting #bestandworst

I know it can be hard with the xmas lists. I remember from when i was a kid i would make a super long list and then give it to my family x

This reminds me of a year when I’d bought my son everything on his list, then at the last minute he said he wanted some Pokemon figures. It was 2 days before Christmas eve and I was in such a panic trying to find them. I think I managed to get some in Tesco in the end (good old Tesco). xx #bestnworst

My mother would be the exact same! I was very lucky in that sense. I know it would be stressful, but she used to do so well. When she worked in this one place, she was the cook and her assistant cook was like her best friend and I got on so well with her daughter, our Christmas lists would always be the same so one would get two sets of one gift, the other would get another, etc. and they would do it that way. My dad would be great at helping, too.

Ha ha, I always tell my son that he won’t get everything on his list and he’s fine with that, but I have to admit that between ‘santa’ and all the other members of the family who like to buy for him he does get most things. Although this year he had about 20 teddies on his Amazon wish list (he’s 7 and already has far too many that are never played with but just make changing his bed sheets a living nightmare) so this year Santa has decided he’s too old for teddies 😁

Oh Emily I so get this! Alfie the other day said that he’s desperate for Santa to bring him a particular train for his set which we hadn’t got him so I had a panicked search online to find one only to order it for it to say it may not arrive till Jan, arghhhhh……it’s been dispatched so I’m hoping for the best but I’m already thinking of the ‘oh it must have fallen off the sleigh’ excuse if it doesn’t get here in time. I am like you, I do try and get everything on the list where possible, I love a happy face on Christmas morning :0 Thanks for linking up! #bestandworst
