The Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility
One of the most important life lessons I try to teach my children is to be kind. I’m always telling them, if they can be anything in life, to be kind. I always put an emphasis on being kind while making sure that they’re not being taken advantage of.
The best way to teach children, I find, is to lead by example. It’s always especially nice to see big companies taking the lead in this kind of thing. That’s why the Builder Depot caught my eye recently.
Builder Depot has recently launched their charitable donations programme where they give free materials away to worthy causes. I think it’s so important that organisations such as Builder Depot give back to the community. It’s one of the reasons why companies such as this attract, and more importantly, retain employees.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate social responsibility is the idea that a company should play a positive role in the community while considering the environmental, social and economic value of their actions. It could be something small or something big. As an example, my local zero waste shop regularly organise community litter picks. They invite locals to meet them and work together to tidy up the local area. In addition, they provide everything needed and dispose of the rubbish collected in an environmentally friendly and socially acceptable way.

For bigger companies such as Builder Depot, corporate social responsibility has seen them launch their charitable donations programme which has enabled them to help:
- Registered charities
- Educational institutes
- Local community projects
- Religious institutions
- Animal & wildlife conservations
- Hospitals & hospices
One such way that they have helped is by supplying products to their local community garden project, New Southgate Millennium Green, including screws, drill bits and other fixings. This gave the volunteers who give up their time keeping up the project, the tools needed to maintain a much needed green space in an urban environment.
The Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility
There are lots of benefits to companies who play an active role in corporate social responsibility. From improved employee productivity, engagement, talent acquisition and retention to lower costs and reduced waste. In addition, corporate social responsibility also enhances community support, branding and customer loyalty.
So whether you’re a small start up or a big, experienced business, it’s worth looking into corporate social responsibility.
