A mum is a person to be looked up to. A role model for her children to aspire to and also the glue that holds a family together.
A dad of course is also the glue that holds a family together, but when I lost my mum things changed in a big way and I didn’t like it. I still don’t like. We all seem to have drifted apart and are so busy with our own lives that we almost forget each other’s existence.
We lost mum over ten years ago now, so you’d think I’d be used to it by now, but I’m not. You never get used to it. It actually gets harder the older I get.
I remember her smile, her laugh and her cough! Her cough? You may say, well yes, her cough.
My sister and I would be in the supermarket with her. If we lost her, we’d just listen out for her cough. We knew it was hers, so distinctive. It’s strange I know, but they’re my precious memories and I cherish them so much. Like the time she went down a waterslide on holiday and lost her top at the end. She laughed. I laughed.
She thought it was hilarious!
I never really knew you. That makes me sad.
I mean of course I knew you, but I didn’t really have the chance to get to know you. K and I were just 18 when you died. I don’t know what your favourite colour is. What your favourite food is. It seems trivial, but I’d love to know.
I wish you could have been there when all of your grandchildren were born. I know you’d love them and they’d love you just as much too. To see you holding them, playing with them would have been beautiful.
I wish you could have been there when I needed someone to talk to and ask questions. You were a twin mum like me too and I really wish I could have asked you how you coped.
You were the glue that held us together and now you’re gone, it’s just not the same.

Made me think of my mum and how important she is to me, she was there when my daughter was born, she cut the cord and she's always there when I need her, which has been a lot during my pnd!! I don't want to imagine life without her!! So I really feel for you!!! I'm sure she would have been proud if you!! Big hugs!! Xxx
