Five Hobbies That You Must Try in Your Spare Time!

April 3, 2017

Having a hobby is something that people tend to think the elderly have. However, that’s not the case at all. I’m 30 years old and I have lots of hobbies. Hobbies that I wish I had more time for!

Hobbies are great because you can learn a new skill, meet new people, possibly even forge a new career! Hobbies also helps you to do something for yourself. A little ‘me-time’, a little self indulgence, and who doesn’t need a bit of that now and again! I know I do!

So without further ado here are five hobbies that you simply must try in your spare time!

Flower Arranging

Flower arranging truly is an art form. It might sound scary, hard even, but with practise, guidance and a little will power, you’d be amazed at what you can achieve!

It doesn’t matter where in the world you live, you can either pop out to your local florist or simply get some delivered to your door to practise with. Companies such as Ready Flowers have a vast range of flowers available. You can even search online for free tutorials and course, plus social media sites such as Pinterest can also help provide some ideas and inspiration.

Sewing

Before I seriously started getting into my sewing, I knew a little bit about it and could sew something together if I needed to, although not very neatly! I then came across Dolls and Daydreams which is a website that sells dolls patterns. I’d been eyeing up the stunning patterns for ages and then I decided to take the plunge!

Dolls and Daydreams

I bought two patterns. A mermaid and a superhero. The instructions were super easy to follow. Since my very first purchase, I’ve made lots and lots of dolls! I’ve learnt lots of sewing skills and it’s a hobby that I love!

Lock Picking

There are certain survival skills that everyone should learn. On top of the list are cooking, choosing produce, cleaning, and washing clothes. But there are also unconventional survival skills that people should know, namely, lock picking and changing locks. These jobs are in the realm of locksmiths, but you can certainly use these skills for emergencies and for saving money on locksmith services. Get yourself a basic lock pick set, and go learn how to undo locks without keys then learn how to install them

Running

Ok, so this hobby perhaps isn’t for everyone, but it’s one that I’ve been doing continuously for around three months now. What started out as a way for me to be healthier and fitter, has now become a hobby!

I love running. I think about running way too much and I’m even taking part in my first ever 5k this weekend, in addition to a 10k in March 2017.

Running is a great way to keep fit and it doesn’t take up a lot of your time. My 5k time is currently 35 minutes. 35 minutes is such a small chunk out of your day, that surely everyone can spare that time to go for a run.

Writing

A book, a blog, a poem, writing is a fantastic hobby. For me it goes hand in hand with reading. If you love reading, then you’ll probably surprise yourself at just how good you can write. Reading helps to improve your vocabulary and also your imagination, so why not put these skills to the test and start writing.

Obviously, I write a blog and I love it. It’s a creative outlet for me to get my words out there, but it’s also one of my favourite hobbies.

Maybe you’d like to write a poem or even a jingle! Give it a go, you might surprise yourself!

Craft

Crafts is such a broad word. It can be applied to so many different hobbies such as sewing, card making, scrap booking and more!

Crafting is a fun hobby that can take up as much or as little time as you want it too. It’s also another great way to learn a new skill and meet people!
