I’ve always wanted to whiten my teeth, but because I have sensitive teeth I’ve never actually tried.
I worry that my sensitive teeth will make any sort of whitening process painful.
I’ve always brushed my teeth morning and night, but years of tea drinking and my past history of smoking has left my teeth a little on the yellow side and also a bit stained.
I’m quite conscious of my teeth. As a result of this I always have my mouth closed when I smile for pictures. I don’t show my teeth off so family pictures are all about a closed mouth!
When Smile Brilliant invited me to review their teeth whitening kit I jumped at the chance!
Smile Brilliant is a dental lab designed to help customers receive professional strength teeth whitening without ever visiting a dentist! Their lab was specifically created to curb the high cost of cosmetic teeth whitening that is charged at dental offices around the world.
Their website is American so prices are in dollars, but for $119.95 (price accurate based on today’s date) it’s pretty good value for money!
You do have to pay to return your impressions back to America and from the UK this was less than £5.
Here is the kit I received:
As you can see there are two impression trays. One for your top set and one for your bottom set.
Also included is three small pots of catalyst paste and three small pots of base paste. You’ll need these to create your impressions.
There’s also three syringes of de-sensitising gel and three syringes of teeth whitening gel.
You also get instructions and a card that you’ll need to fill in and return with your impressions.
Getting Started
Here are my teeth pre-treatment.
As you can see they have a yellow tint to them and are quite stained.
Creating your impressions
Before you get started you need to brush and floss your teeth thoroughly.
Next up you’ll need to mix one pot of the catalyst paste with one pot of base paste.
The catalyst paste is white and the base paste is blue.
To mix them together simply folding them in half until they create a solid blue colour.
This was pretty easy to do, although the instructions advise that you shouldn’t take too long as the putty will begin hardening.
Once your pasted have been mixed together you need to place the putty into one of the impression trays.
You’ll need to spread it evenly within 30 seconds. It doesn’t like much time, but it’s plenty as the putty is easy to spread.
To create your impression simply press the tray evenly into your teeth deep enough that the putty flows over the gum lines. You’ll need to massage the overflowing putty into your gums.
Leave in your mouth for two minutes 30 seconds, taking extra care not to bite down or wiggle the impress.
When you’re ready remove the tray carefully and check to make sure that you can clearly see the impression of your teeth in the putty.
You’ll then need to repeat the above steps again to create an impression of your lower teeth.
Don’t worry if you make a mistake, a third set of both the catalyst and base paste is provided should you need it!
When you’ve created both of your impressions and you’re happy with them simply put them in the evening and return them with the return card filled out.
De-Sensitising Gel
When you receive your trays back you can get started!
As mentioned above I have sensitive teeth so before I started whitening my teeth I used the de-sensitising gel.
Three syringes are provided which is more than enough.
You need to brush your teeth with water only before you start and also floss.
Make sure that your trays are clean and then apply a thin steady ribbon of the gel to the interior, middle of the tray.
Dry your teeth as best you can and then insert the tray. Leave them in for 5-15 minutes.
Once time is up take the trays out and spit out any remaining gel. Do not rinse your mouth!
Teeth Whitening
This is the same process as the de-sensitising gel, except you’ll need to leave the trays in for anything from 15 minutes to three hours.
The longer the gel is in contact with the tooth the quicker the stains will be removed.
Results
First Application
I wasn’t sure how long to leave the teeth whitening gel on for, but I opted for two hours.
I’m really glad I decided on two hours as I’m pleased with the results and I haven’t had any sensitivity so that’s a bonus!
I don’t think the stains have faded at all. I actually think they stand out more because my teeth are whiter, but it’s only the first treatment!
Second Application
Sorry the picture isn’t great, but you can see from the second application that a lot of the stains on my top four middle teeth have gone!
I’m very impressed!
My teeth look whiter, cleaner and I feel more confident when I smile!
Third Application
Sorry for the picture quality. My teeth were slightly whiter on the third application again, which is great, but more impressive to me is that the stains have faded more again.
My teeth feel cleaner and I feel more confident smiling now that my teeth are whiter and less stained. I’ll continue to use Smile Brilliant and would definitely recommend it to others looking to whiten their teeth.
