Review: Why I Always Carry Bamboo Drinking Straws with me

September 26, 2019

For the purpose of this review, I was gifted one set of six bamboo straws. All views and opinions are 100% my own.

As a parent I try my best to lead by example. Whether it’s saying thank you to someone for holding a door open for me or by taking care of the environment. Children learn from us so it’s important that we teach them right from wrong.

This year has been a big learning curve for all of us. We started our zero waste journey back in February and we’ve made so many positive changes. From ditching plastic bottles of shampoo in favour of shampoo bars and using reusable sandwich bags for the girls school lunches. All of these changes have been really easy to implement.

A massive bug bear of mine is plastic straws. They’re everywhere! From cafes and restaurants to shops and parks!

Did you know that in England, it’s estimated that annually we use 4.7 billion plastic straws. Even though non-plastic alternatives are readily available, these single-use plastic items are used for just a few minutes but take hundreds of years to break down. Cleaning up the effects of littering costs local Government millions of pounds every year (source).

There are lots of alternatives to plastic straws such as paper, stainless steel, glass or bamboo.

These Vie Gourmet bamboo straws come from nature and land in nature, making them 100% biodegradable! At just £4.95 for a pack of six, these straws not only look good, they’re also strong and durable, plus they contain no inks or dyes and they’re sustainably grown and BPA-free.

We were sent a pack of six bamboo straws to review and we absolutely love them. I take them everywhere with me! They come in a handy carry zippered pouch too!

They can be used with both hot and cold drinks, plus they’re super easy to clean because they come with a handy cleaning brush.

Each 9-inch straw comes from a single bamboo strain that is unique for its subtle variation in color, thickness, texture and diameter. Each straw is unique and fully biodegradable, reusable and environmentally friendly.

Not only are they sustainable, they’re also made of high quality bamboo. Everywhere we go from now on, I’ll always be sure to pop these into my handbag!
