Review: Nativity! The Musical at the Wales Millennium Centre
We were invited along to the press night of Nativity! The Musical at Wales Millennium Centre. All views and opinions are 100% my own.
My children are big fans of the Nativity films so when we heard that there was going to be a stage show of Nativity! The Musical we were all really excited!
Wales Millennium Centre invited us along to see the show last night and we absolutely loved it!
Following the smash-hit 2018 tour and London run, Nativity! The Musical is on in Wales Millennium Centre this November. It’s been adapted for the stage by the creator of the films, Debbie Isitt.
Nativity! The Musical features all of the hit songs, Sparkle and Shine, Nazareth, One Night One Moment and She’s The Brightest Star.
Nativity! The Musical is a feel-good, funny musical for all the family to enjoy. The cast are energetic, loud, full of energy and we loved every single second of it!
The opening scene featuring Santa Claus and his elves was full of festive spirit and had the entire audience laughing from the beginning.
The set was colourful, glittery, sparkly and eye catching with Christmas presents sat either side of the stage. Our girls and the rest of the audience couldn’t take our eyes off the stage. There was tinsel and glitter and sparkles and it was so much fun!
Nativity! The Musical tells the sorry of St Bernadette’s School as they attempt to mount a musical version of the Nativity. Every child in every school wants to star in their schools Nativity and the children of St Bernadette’s want that chance too, but it seems too many people think they’re not up to the job, including their very own teacher, Mr Madden.
Mr Madden is soon joined by a new teaching assistant, Mr Poppy. Mr Poppy is childlike, full of enthusiasm and positivity. He’s basically the complete opposite of Mr Madden. When up against their rival school, Oakmoor, the headteacher, Gordon Shakespeare is determined to maintain his 5 star rating and decides that he should play the main lead in his own school nativity in which the tale of King Herod is told. Not wanting to be outdone again by Gordon Shakespeare, Mr Madden was overheard saying that a Hollywood producer was going to see his schools nativity show and turn it into a film. The only problem is that, that’s not true. Mr Poppy however doesn’t know this and quickly tells the children and school staff who all excitedly start planning their nativity.
Nativity! The Musical follows Mr Madden, along with his crazy teaching assistant, Mr Poppy and the hilarious children while they struggle to make everyone’s Christmas wish come true with lots of sparkle and shine, laughter and fun!
Mr Poppy was laugh out loud funny and had children and adults alike laughing for most of the show. The children sang beautifully, played their parts well and were simply superb! Crackers the dog was very well behaved and super cute too!
We really had such a fantastic time. I can’t recommend Nativity! The Musical enough. It’s amazing!
Nativity! The Musical has a suggested age guidance of 5 years and over. No under 2s are allowed. It runs for 2 hours and 20 minutes including an interval.
