Review: Marineland Majorca

July 25, 2016
During our recent family holiday to Majorca, which you can read all about here, my husband and I decided that we’d like to take our children on an excursion. We opted for Marineland because we thought it looked like a great day out. Plus they have the only live dolphin show in Majorca so we were pretty keen to see the show!

We arranged the excursion via Thomson so we were picked up on a coach. The journey from our hotel took around an hour. We arrived at 10am and went straight in without having to queue as we already had our tickets. However, there wasn’t much of a queue anyway.

Upon entering Marineland there was a lady waiting with a parrot for a photo opportunity. My husband quickly swapped places with me as he didn’t want the parrot on his arm! We later bought the photo as a souvenir of our day for 10 Euros.

The first thing we saw when we walked in were the flamingos. There were a few parrots in with them as well. On the other side of this were the sea lions. They were swimming around their enclosure quite happily!

We decided to find out where the dolphin show area was before we did anything else as we wanted to get seats! On the way there we found a small eating area which had a children’s splash pool in along with a variety of slides. Luckily we knew this was there before setting off so we brought the girls swimsuits with us, although we told the girls they could have a play a bit later on.
After we’d found the dolphin show area we wandered around the tropical house and saw a whole host of different animals. From brightly coloured blue, red and green frogs, to iguanas, monkeys, sharks, snakes and lots of different types of fish.

We then headed over to take our seats at the dolphin show. We didn’t have to wait long for the show to start. The dolphins, Blue, Blava, Estel, Sacha and Mateo, along with their handlers were amazing!

You could tell how much passion the handlers for the dolphins and vice versa. The dolphins performed a number of different tricks such as jumps and flips. We absolutely loved the show. My husband and twin girls were mesmerised by it!

After the show we decided to enjoy an ice cream whilst overlooking the beach and harbour. Marineland is right on the beach and has direct access to it, so if you did want to spend a few hours building sandcastles or just relaxing then you could!

The views across from this point were amazing!

We then decided to go and see the parrot show. Unfortunately we didn’t have the best seats as we were right by the steps on the far end, but it turns out this did have one advantage. The people conducting the show were dressed as pirates, which our girls loved, and the man stood right next to us whilst the female pirate was on the other side. She then let one of the parrots fly from her, right over the top of the audience, to the man who was stood right by us!

It was quite funny watching our girls duck their heads as the parrot flew towards them! They thought it was brilliant! The parrots did a number of tricks such as riding bike and even did some maths! It was a great show!

After the show we walked around to see some of the other animals. There were some turtles in a large pond and one of them was sat on the wall. The girls gently stroked the turtles shell which was a great experience for them.

Marineland is quite small so you could probably get around it in an hour, but we managed to stretch it out over a good few hours until it was time for the coach to pick us up.

Before leaving our girls played in the splash park. There was a lifeguard there which was great to see. Although there are lots of places within Marineland to eat, we brought a packed lunch with us which our hotel provided for us. However, if you don’t want to eat within Marineland you can stamp your hand on your way out and eat in one of the surrounding cafes or restaurants before returning.

Overall, we had a great day out at Marineland and would definitely recommend a visit if you’re ever in Marjorca!
