Making Magic Potions!

That was, until a few Sundays ago. We were all under the weather with coughs and runny noses. As such we were all pretty tired as none of us got much sleep the night before as a result of listening to everyone coughing. Of course it doesn’t help that we’re all in the same bed either!
Anyway, I was feeling pretty lazy on the Sunday and didn’t really want to do anything except sit on the sofa in front of the TV all day! However, when you have children that’s not an option. I needed to wake up and motivate myself so I decided to walk to the post box with the girls as we had a letter that needed to be posted.
The post box is literally just around the corner from the house, but I could tell the girls were getting bored so thought a little fresh air would do them good.
After we’d posted the letter, I felt more awake and motivated – the power of fresh air! I went into the back garden with the girls and found a bucket. I asked the girls if they wanted to go for another walk, but this time I said they could collect things on the way to make a magic potion!
They loved this idea!
As we walked down the road, the girls held the bucket together and picked some flowers of all sorts of colours – pink, yellow, blue etc! They also added some petals that they’d found, along with some freshly cut grass, stones and some leaves! We even added some puddle water!
On the way home, the girls chatted so much about the potion and how the birds would enjoy drinking it. They talked about wondering what would happen when the potion was all gone (I’ll have to think of something!) and if they should add anything else.

As we were walking down our road a police man was on patrol and he crossed the road to come and say hello which the girls loved! They told him all about their magic potion!
When we got home the girls filled their watering cans up with water and added it to the bucket. They then set off in search of some sticks that they would use to stir the potion!

I really love this simple and fun idea for kids to get out and enjoy nature. We did something similar at forest school last month and it's so much fun
