LeapFrog Epic Tablet Review (Includes Video)

Like most children, our four year old twin girls enjoy playing a variety of games, both electronic and with toys. As a parent I want to ensure that the games my children play are both age appropriate and educational.

This is easily done when they’re sat in the same room with me playing with their toys, but when it comes to playing games on electronic devices, I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I need peace of mind and reassurance that what they’re watching and playing is appropriate.

That’s where the new Leapfrog Epic tablet comes in. The Leapfrog Epic is aimed at children aged 3-9 years old. It’s a one of a kind tablet experience that grows with your child.

One of the great things about the Epic is that the home screen is completely unique to your child. They can customise it to their liking with stickers, plus the home screen is also ‘playable’. Children can click on the ferris wheel to make it spin, or on the truck to turn it into an ice cream van! Children can animate with moving cars, floating balloons and more. They can also re-design their world as often as they like and really get their creativity and imagination going!

The safe, out-of-the-box web expands when children are ready to explore more, and parents can set parental controls to ensure that the content their child sees is age appropriate. Parents can also set time limits on how long their child plays games, browses the web or watches videos for etc.

One of my favourite things about the Leapfrog Epic is that children can learn as they grow with LeapFrog’s auto-levelling learning games to Android kid-favourites for their own world of fun.

Unlike other tablets, you don’t need to buy game cartridges as all games can simply be downloaded onto the device from the app store. No-more having to worry about losing cartridges!

I love that the LeapFrog Epic comes with 20  free apps. These can be installed when you set up the device and you also get the option to choose one of four free games. Another great thing is that if you already have a LeapFrog account, it’s really easy to download the games you’ve already purchased to your Leapfrog Epic so there’s no need to pay again!

In addition to the various learning apps and games, the LeapFrog Epic features real time weather forecasts. You can either set this to the area where you live or maybe just a location that your child is curious about! There’s also a real time clock, plus children will also receive daily surprises!

The Leapfrog Epic also comes with a silicone case already on the device. This is perfect for keeping your device safe and protects it from damage, plus saves mummy and daddy from having spending more money on a case! The case can be removed if you want to take it off.

Another thing that I really like about the Leapfrog Epic is that gives children the freedom to explore, make discoveries and tap into new interests. The kid-safe web browser allows children the freedom to be independent and become decision makers, while guarding their safety.

Overall, I have to say that the Leapfrog Epic is easy for children to use. The icons are clear and the playable, interactive home screen adds to the fun. The Leapfrog Epic is an Android™ based operating system with a 7″ multi-touch capacitive screen. It also has a 16GB memory.
